"Several members of the Torada Collective were off-planet when the war broke out. That's not unusual, of course, but five of them in particular are behind Separatist lines, and their parents would like them retrieved."
―Jamillia, to Padmé Amidala, about the parents of Kharl and other artists[1]

The Naboo human man Kharl had at least two parents who lived during the Republic Era.[1] By 22 BBY,[2] Kharl had joined the Torada Collective—a group of Naboo artists—and moved to[1] the Outer Rim[3] planet Nooroyo—partially to access medicinal spice for a chronic condition, but also to easier explore his artistic passions.[1]

Following the outbreak of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems[1] in 22 BBY,[2] Kharl's parents worried for his safety due to Nooroyo being in Separatist territory. Queen Jamillia of[1] the Mid Rim[3] planet Naboo sent the world's senatorPadmé Amidala—to bring several of the Torada Collective artists back to their homeworld, citing their parents' concerns. Though Kharl refused to flee with Amidala even when the senator reiterated his parents' worries, one of his colleagues—Antraya—left for Naboo and reunited with her sister, Jamillia.[1]

Behind the scenes

Kharl's parents were mentioned in the 2022 young-adult novel Queen's Hope, written by E. K. Johnston as the third installment of Star Wars: Queen's Series.[1] Prior to its release, the mention was included in a StarWars.com preview for the novel on November 2, 2021.[4]
