Kay's room was in the attic of The Broken Hoof bar on the planet Cantonica where the thief Kay Vess lived during the Imperial Era.

Description

The attic of The Broken Hoof bar located in the South Stretch Worker's District of the casino city Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica was resided in by the human thief Kay Vess. It was a circular room with a single door that out from one side of the room to the rest of the bar. The center of the room had a multi–section circular window in the attic's floor that looked down onto the bar. A holoprojector, which hung over the bar, was attached to the window mounting.^[1]

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, the slicer Riko Vess lived in the room with her daughter Kay Vess with the permission of the Zabrak Bram Shano, the bar's owner. During which, the room had two small beds setup for Kay and Riko^[1] between old equipment and furniture that Shano was storing.^[2] Kay later rescued the merqaal Nix who shared her bed in the room. One day, Riko left, abandoning Kay at a young age and leaving behind a hologram message for Kay, a blaster and a casino chip with Shano who gave it to Kay and told her she could keep the room until she figures things out.^[1]

By 3 ABY,^[3] the window in the room's floor had been broken, allowing Kay to hear the bar from the room.^[1] By the same year,^[3] Kay had added posters of her favorite bands and places she'd like to visit above her bed in the room. Behind her workbench, which consisted of a metal sheet propped up by random objects, was a piece of metal that she drew the design of her constellation tattoo.^[2] Vess used a police scanner to monitor the activity of the Canto Bight Police Department from the room.^[1]

In 3 ABY,^[3] Kay was seen stealing forged identicard from the local Sixth Kin crime gang. When she made it back to her room in The Broken Hoof, Shano was waiting to talk to her about the failed heist, when enforcers for the Sixth Kin arrived and started trashing the bar looking for Kay. Shano told Kay to stay quite in the room while he went down to talk to the enforcers. She listened in from the room as Shano tried to persuade the human enforcer leading the search that she wasn't at the bar. The conversation was interrupted when another enforcer thought they had found her outside the bar. The human enforcer shot Shano in the right leg before the group left. After which Kay came down from the attic, Shano gave her the details of a job that could get her the money to leave Canto and told her not to come back.^[1]

Behind the scenes

Kay's room appeared for the video game Star Wars Outlaws which was developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft.^[1] Prior to the game's release on August 30, 2024, the room was appeared in the game's "Behind The Scenes – Navigating the Underworld" trailer which was released on July 7, 2024.^[4] It was first identified as "Kay's room" in the 2025 reference book The Art of Star Wars: Outlaws, which also include several pieces of concept art for the room.^[5]
