- "You have any idea what this is?"
"Cheap bet at the Fathier track?"
"A tracker. Strong one too. Custom built. I'd say at least ten years old. Whoever built this wanted to know exactly where their mark was at all times. Makes sense…" - ―Kay Vess and Riko Vess
Kay's Lucky Chip was a custom-built tracker created by the slicer Riko Vess to track her daughter, Kay Vess. Its exterior was disguised as a round, flat, and golden cantocoin from the Canto Casino and Racetrack in the city Canto Bight.[1] In 7 BBY,[2] Riko left the chip for her daughter as a parting gift, which was delivered to her by the bar owner Bram Shano.[1]
Riko continued to track Kay using the chip, which she kept[1] up to 3 ABY,[2] when during a mission, Kay discovered the true identity of the chip and decided to confront Riko, who had been captured by the Galactic Empire, about the truth. At some point after the battle, Kay, disguised as an Imperial officer, met the imprisoned Riko in her cell. While surveying and commenting over the chip to Riko, Kay suggested she had noticed its purpose and Riko's true intentions. Afterward, Kay swapped it with a lockpick, allowing Riko to escape.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kay's Lucky Chip appeared in the 2024 Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws. In the game, the item is unlocked by default and can be equipped by the player as a major charm.[1] Though no gameplay effect has been stated through the description, the in-game files indicates the charm to bring an effect of improving the rate of success for features such as sabacc, fathier races, dropping additional credits, as well as chance-related features in combat.[3]

Visit a Galaxy Far, Far Away with our Star Wars liveblog direct from San Diego Comic-Con 2024! on Popverse: "We're beginning our journey three years after the Battle of Yavin" (backup link archived on January 22, 2025) dates the events of Star Wars Outlaws to 3 ABY. As Outlaws establishes that Riko Vess left Kay Vess ten years before the game's events, she must have done so in 7 BBY.
