During a battle on Mustafar, Admiral Gable Karius shouted the phrase after the Corvax descendant disabled his TIE/ln space superiority starfighter, causing him to crash into the ground.[4]

Garazeb Orrelios, a member of the Ghost crew, used it quite frequently.[5] Ezra Bridger adopted the phrase after spending time with Orrelios.[6] Sabine Wren, another of Orrelios' fellow rebels, also used the phrase when they beheld an Imperial Star Destroyer emerging from hyperspace (prompting Orrelios to echo the sentiment)[7] and so too did the ISB agent Alexsandr Kallus, though whilst expressing confusion regarding what it meant.[1]

The rebel commando Pao used the expression during the Battle of Scarif, upon spotting an incoming AT-ACT.[2]

During the Battle of Jakku, the Duros Shriv Suurgav used the exclamation when he saw an MC80 Star Cruiser take heavy fire and go down in flames.[8]

Behind the scenes

The phrase was created by writer Greg Weisman for the television series Star Wars Rebels.[9] Archive audio of Pao exclaiming "Karabast!" can be commonly heard in the video game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes upon his defeat.[10]

In "Illusion of Control," the sixteenth episode of the third season of the DC Comics animated series Young Justice,[11] released on July 2, 2019,[12] the character Henchy, later revealed to be Devastation in disguise, says karabast in response to being hit by Perdita Vladek. Henchy was voiced by Steve Blum,[11] who also voiced Garazeb Orrelios in Rebels,[6] and the episode was written by Weisman.[11]
