Kangly's syndrome was a rare and terminal disease that humans could develop. The idiopathic condition was poorly researched due to its rarity. The condition was chronic, painful, and incurable. The primary symptom was crises of diffuse, severe, burning pain. Though no definitive treatment regimens were known, symptomatic control of pain crises could be achieved by the use of injections of sol-nitro. This medication also decreased the frequency of the crises when administered regularly.[1]
Triggers for pain crises included psychological stress and nighttime. As the disease progressed, the frequency and intensity of pain crises worsened. Further, administration of sol-nitro became less effective. Over time, pain crises contributed to worsening fatigue and weakness.[1]
By 19 BBY,[2] Colonel Halland Goth, commander of the Emperor's Royal Guard, had developed Kangly's syndrome. Using his modified TC-series protocol droid, TC-99, he secretly self-treated the condition with regular doses of sol-nitro. Goth also sought information on the condition potentially tucked away in the forgotten medical databases within the matrices of various 2-1B surgical droids and FX-series medical assistant droids, which he had TC-99 scan before adopting any valuable information.[1]
Behind the scenes
