"I'm a classic child of the '80s; I'm exactly the right age to have grown up with the movies, the action figures and the toys. It's largely down to my dad because he was a big science fiction fan; he took me to see Star Wars in 1978. […] I would watch the Original Trilogy on VHS; we used to rent it from the video store, like every weekend for five or six years and I would watch nothing else. I can still recite those movies off by heart—I'm sure a lot of people my age can."
―Adam Christopher[4]

Adam Christopher (born on February 2, 1978 in New Zealand) is a novel and comic author. For Star Wars, he has authored the short stories "End of Watch," "The Witness," and "The Steadfast Soldier" for the From a Certain Point of View anthologies. In 2019, he penned the comic story "Tales from Wild Space: Alone in the Dark." Christopher was announced as the author for The Mandalorian: An Original Novel, which had been set for release in 2021.

Afterward, the author worked with the same publisher for the 2022 novel Shadow of the Sith, his first novel for the franchise. The Ghostfinder fleet first introduced in the 2017 novel Aftermath: Empire's End, the Jedi Ma-Dok Risto first introduced in the 2022 novel Brotherhood, and the fictional artificial intelligence ADAM that debuted in the 2016 novel Aftermath: Life Debt are named after him.

Biography

Entry to the franchise

"I'm delighted to have been able to write a little story for Tallie. I thought she was a great character in The Last Jedi, and I'm kinda hoping she survived Kylo's attack on the hangar bay and will reappear in some form later. And, y'know, I have the perfect idea of how to bring her back…"
―Adam Christopher, not long after "Tales from Wild Space: Alone in the Dark"'s release[5]

Adam Christopher was born on February 2,[1] 1978[2] in New Zealand, though is now Great Britain-based.[3] He has authored several works for the Star Wars franchise[1] and been a lifelong fan.[4] The 2016 novel[6] Aftermath: Life Debt,[7] written by Chuck Wendig as the second installment in Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy,[6] introduces the fictional artificial intelligence ADAM, which is based on Christopher's novel, Made to Kill.[7] His first work for Star Wars was "End of Watch," a short story published in the From a Certain Point of View anthology[8] that was published on October 3, 2017.[9] The author's involvement in the project was first announced via StarWars.com on April 7 of the same year.[10] "End of Watch" centers around the Imperial Commander Pamel Poul, who served on the Death Star.[8]

"Tales from Wild Space: Alone in the Dark," which was published in Star Wars Adventures (2017) 26 (cover pictured), marked Christopher's Star Wars comic debut.

"Tales from Wild Space: Alone in the Dark," which was published in Star Wars Adventures (2017) 26 (cover pictured), marked Christopher's Star Wars comic debut.

Christopher also penned "Tales from Wild Space: Alone in the Dark," a comic story in the twenty-sixth issue of IDW Publishing's Star Wars Adventures comic series[11] that was released on September 25, 2019. The story features the Resistance pilot Tallissan Lintra,[11] who the author enjoyed as a character in Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi,[5] a sequel trilogy film released on December 15, 2017.[12] Though Lintra died in the film,[13] Christopher expressed hope that she had survived and had story ideas on how to bring her back.[5] The Ghostfinder fleet, was named after the author who uses the Twitter username "Ghostfinder."[14] The fleet debuted in the novel Aftermath: Empire's End, which was authored by Chuck Wendig as the final installment of Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy[15] and released on February 21, 2017.[16]

Christopher's short story, "The Witness," was published as part of the anthology From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back[17] on November 10, 2020. His involvement in the project was first officially revealed via StarWars.com on June 15 of the same year,[18] though had also been teased by the author on his website three days prior. Having enjoyed working on the first From a Certain Point of View anthology, he was pleased to be able to contribute to the second as well.[19] "The Witness" centers around the stormtrooper Deena Lorn,[17] a character who first appeared in the 1980 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[20] Christopher created Lorn's stormtrooper designation as a reference to the writer Bria LaVorgna,[21] who identifies as TK-27342 in the 501st Legion fan organization.[22] The author enjoyed that the anthology's cover artist—Will Staehle—had also worked on several of his other original projects, finding it to be a coincidence.[19]

Shadow of the Sith and later work

"So, this is a deep, secret, magic in-depth look at the writing process: I had a friend at school called Dathan. And I just thought it was a cool name. I think it's a more common name in the States, but I wanted something that was not super common, but also like an earthy name. Star Wars is that magical thing where there's a mix of kind of strange alien names and then you've got Luke and Ben. And when you dig into the books and the comics, you find even more examples."
―Adam Christopher[4]

Christopher was slated to write The Mandalorian: An Original Novel, originally set for release in December 2020 and later rescheduled to fall 2021[23] before its eventual cancellation by the publisher Del Rey on March 9, 2021.[24] His involvement in the project was announced on June 30, 2020, simultaneously on StarWars.com[25] and Christopher's website. During this time period, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Christopher spent a lot of time rewatching Star Wars media.[23] Not long after the cancellation, the publisher confirmed that Christopher had been given the opportunity to write a new Star Wars novel.[24][26]

Christopher's next project for Star Wars was announced as Shadow of the Sith on October 7, 2021, and later released on June 28, 2022. The story featured an adventure focusing on Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and his friend and former Alliance colleague Landonis Balthazar Calrissian,[27] in which the latter searches for his daughter Kadara Calrissian.[28] To promote Shadow of the Sith, was interviewed by Brandon Wainerdi for the feature "Playing With Shadows," which was published in the 212th issue of Star Wars Insider[29] on August 2, 2022.[30] Earlier same year, he attended Celebration Europe[31] held from April 7 to 10th.[32] Christopher confirmed that Kadara's name was a reference to Lando's original name of "Lando Kadar" in Leigh Brackett's script for Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[33] He also named the Strand-Cast Dathan after a childhood friend named Dathan, wanting, a name that sounded earthly, like Luke and Ben, but not too common. He also named Miramir after Miramar, a suburb of Wellington, New Zealand. According to the author, he wanted a fantasy name to go with Miramir's homeworld Hyperkarn, which is mysterious and has a twilight forest. The author typed in the name and switched around some of the letters, and thought the name Miramir had a magical quality, almost Elven.[4]

Darth Voord was named in reference to the science fiction franchise Doctor Who,[34] in which the Voord are a hostile alien species.[35] The Jedi Ma-Dok Risto, who debuted[36] in the May 10, 2022[37] novel Brotherhood by Mike Chen, is a tuckerization of Christopher's name.[36] For the anthology From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi, Christopher authored the short story "The Steadfast Soldier," which focused on the Imperial officer Enric Pryde.[38] The authors for the anthology were announced on March 9, 2023, and later published on August 2 of the same year.[39] Christopher wrote a significant amount of Enric Pryde's backstory between both Shadow of the Sith and the "The Steadfast Soldier,"[28][38] describing Pryde as a "handsome chap" with a "bit of a chip on his shoulder"[40] and a "loveable psychopath."[41] Agreeing with a post that heralded the "chilling and calculated" Pryde as one of the Skywalker Saga's best villains, Christopher confirmed he has further ideas for the character.[42]

Master of Evil

Christopher wrote the novel Master of Evil, which was released in 2025.[43]
