The Iridium Pirates[1] originated from the Iridium system[1][2] of the Outer Rim Territories.[3] The group was active during the time of the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems. Along with several other pirate groups, the capture of the Iridium Pirates by the Confederacy was deprioritized by its governmental leader, Count Dooku. Dooku then signed terms with the pirates to exclusively target the Republic during the course of the war.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Iridium Pirates were first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Iridium Pirates first appeared in "The Power Gem", a comic strip of the Star Wars strip, authored by Archie Goodwin and published by the Los Angeles Times Syndicate from July 26 to October 3 of 1982.[4]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Iridium Pirates in relation to Iridium system.
