"She's gonna blow!"
―Grizz Frix's last words[2]

Grizz Frix was a male human starfighter pilot who flew for the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. He was recruited into the squadron after the Battle of Hoth and was killed during the Battle of Endor, where he flew under the callsign Red Five.

Biography

Joining Red Squadron

"Grizz Frix."
"Another hothead. Still, he never brained a fellow rebel with a tray. And with that ringing endorsement, he's part of the squadron."
―Wedge Antilles and Wes Janson, reforming Red Squadron[4]

Shortly after the evacuation of Hoth in 3 ABY,[5] Commander Wedge Antilles recruited Grizz Frix into the newly reformed Red Squadron. Lieutenant Wes Janson commented that Frix was another "hothead." On reporting on progress from sim training, Antilles told his superior the Contessa that Frix had no trouble flying in formation but kept breaking formation to chase down targets.[4]

Protecting the rendezvous point

"We lost Penn, Grizz, do not engage. Stay with me."
―Bela Elar, to Grizz Frix[4]

Days after Antilles reformed Red Squadron, the squadron was sent on a mission. Frix flew a T-65B X-wing starfighter as Bela Elar's wingmate, alongside Penn Zowlie, in an attack on a nearby pirate base, that threatened the safety of the Alliance's rendezvous point. The squadron succeeded in eliminating the pirates.[4]

During the Battle of Endor, Frix flew for Red Squadron under the callsign Red Five.[3] He died when his T-65B X-wing starfighter exploded during an attack on an Imperial Star Destroyer.[2]

Personality and traits

Grizz Frix was described as a hothead and was shown to be a skilled pilot as he had no trouble flying in formation.

Behind the scenes

Grizz Frix was played by actor Ronny Cush in Return of the Jedi.[6][7]

Frix's helmet prop—or one of a matching design—was previously used by Jon Vander in A New Hope, and "Hobbie" in The Empire Strikes Back. It was also seen being carried by a different, unidentified pilot on Home One in Return of the Jedi.
