- "Green Leader to Commander Gree! Super Battle Droids have breached our hull!"
- ―Green Leader, to Clone Commander Gree
"Green Leader" was the callsign of the clone trooper who led the clone troopers from Green Company, which was attached to the Grand Army of the Republic's 41st Elite Corps during the Clone Wars. He was stationed aboard the Venator-class Star Destroyer Tranquility when the Confederacy of Independent Systems boarded the ship in a desperate attempt to rescue Viceroy Nute Gunray, leader of the Trade Federation, from Republic custody. Green Leader led a squad and engaged in battle. After his forces were overrun in the Tranquility's hangar while trying to repel B2-series super battle droids that were deployed from a trio of Droch-class boarding ships, Green Leader was shot and wounded. Green Leader was then killed when Sith assassin Asajj Ventress beheaded him.
Biography
Ambush on the Tranquility
- "They're heading for the detention level. We need reinforcements–"
- ―Green Leader to Commander Gree before being shot
Green Leader personally led a squad of his company's clone troopers to face the threat in the hangar.
This clone[3] was born on the planet Kamino as a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett made to serve the Galactic Republic.[1] Early during the Clone Wars against the Separatist Alliance, this clone trooper served in the Grand Army of the Republic's 41st Elite Corps as the commanding officer of Green Company, serving with the call sign "Green Leader."[4] During this time, Viceroy of the Trade Federation and Separatist Council member Nute Gunray was captured on the planet Rodia by Senator Padmé Amidala and her companions. Green Company was sent to retrieve Viceroy Gunray and transport him to the flagship Tranquility so that he could be taken to Coruscant and interrogated for Separatist information.[3]
While Jedi General Luminara Unduli and Jedi Commander Ahsoka Tano interrogated Gunray in the starship's brig, the Tranquility was attacked[3] by a squadron[6] of vulture droid starfighters and a trio Droch-class boarding ships. Clone Commander Gree deployed Green Company to repel Separatist forces, and Green Leader and his forces sprang into action,[3] with a squad[6] under Green Leader heading to the main hangar. B2-series super battle droids deployed from the boarding ships and into the hangar and engaged Republic forces led by Green Leader.[3]
Death
Green Leader stands his ground and attempts to contact his comrades as Ventress rushes to kill him.
- "All units! There's a bald–"
- ―Green Leader's last words
As the skirmish was underway, Green Leader contacted Commander Gree to report the status of the attack. After Separatist forces broke through and defeated the clone troopers, Green Leader hid behind a crate and warned Commander Gree that the droids were headed to the prison level and that his forces needed reinforcements. However, a super battle droid spotted Green Leader and shot him with several blaster shots, resulting in his transmission with Gree being severed. After the super battle droids pressed on to the detention level, Dark Acolyte Asajj Ventress lowered herself from a landing craft and spotted[3] Green Leader, who was picking himself up from the floor after being wounded.[6]
As he picked himself up, he attempted to contact other troopers with his comlink but was beheaded by both of Ventress's lightsabers before he could finish. Ventress then stole Green Leader's wrist comlink, and used it to spy on Republic communications. Ultimately, the super battle droids were stopped, but Gunray was freed by Ventress and a traitor to the Senate Guard, Faro Argyus.[3]
Personality and traits
Green Leader was spotted by a super battle droid, who shot him while he reported the droids were heading to the detention level.
As a clone of Jango Fett,[3] Green Leader was a human who was 1.83 meters tall and had naturally black hair, brown eyes, and tan skin.[1] Being overwhelmed by enemy forces, Green Leader was able to hide until he had to contact Commander Gree and warn him of Separatist movements to the detention level,[3] a decision that wounded him. Despite his wounds, he picked himself up and attempted to warn his brethren of the Dark Acolyte's threat while attempting to shoot her down, costing him his life.[6]
Skills and abilities
Green Leader,[3] like his fellow clone troopers, was trained in combat[1] and rose to lead a company of clone troopers.[4]
Equipment
At birth, like the other clone troopers, Green Leader was implanted by the Kaminoan scientists with a behavioral modification biochip to ensure that the trooper would not resist certain orders.[1] While he was a clone trooper officer, Green Leader wore a set of standard phase I clone trooper armor with the green markings of Green Company, and did not have any personalization or additional equipment. During combat, Green Leader utilized a DC-15A blaster carbine.[3]
Behind the scenes
Green Leader first appeared[3] in the ninth episode of the first season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, "Cloak of Darkness," which aired on December 5, 2008.[7] Like all clone troopers in the series,[8] the captain was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.[3]
