The Grand Renewal was a project that was part of the Great Works of the High Republic Era. The project—which took place in 233 BBY—involved the restoration of the planet Kwenn, which was rescued from the brink of destruction by the Jedi Order. During the Grand Renewal colossal machines purified the seas and skies, mountains of rubbish were decontaminated, covered and reshaped into clusters of artificial islands. The islands became known as the Gem Cities of Kwenn. To make transit between the islands easy, majestic bridges were built over the straits between the islands. Taller landforms were ringed by terraces while smaller keys were provided with parklands. The near dead industries of the planet were resuscitated with emphasis on protecting the ecosystem to prevent another ecological catastrophe. Use of airspeeders was limited to keep the skies between the islands open. Spaceports were sensibly placed and received many visitors as Kwenn became a choice stopover for travelers in The Slice only a few years after the efforts of the Grand Renewal commenced. A Jedi outpost was constructed in Sanctuary Mount on Capital Key.[1]
