Geta were a type of footwear.[1] A geta consisted of a flat rectangular base that could be strapped to an individual's foot with two rectangular supports on the bottom of the base that elevated it off the ground. While walking on[2] Mount Hakamori,[1] a snowy mountain on an astronomical object, the Jedi known as Shogun wore a pair of geta[2] with a heating function that always kept the soles of their feet warm.[1] Shogun's geta had two small round red lights and a horizontal yellow light on the front of their bases.[2]
On the planet Genbara,[5] an RA-7 protocol droid serving as a bodyguard wore a pair of geta while defending a village from bandits.[3] On the planet Olcatz, the CZ protocol droid CZ-D16 wore geta while working at the To-Ba mobile gambling hall and during a battle against the Crusaders[4] Jedi sect[6] on Tkoku Island.[4]
Behind the scenes
Geta first appeared, albeit unidentified, in "The Duel," a short film in the non-canon Star Wars: Visions series. The animated short, produced by Kamikaze Douga, was released on Disney+[3] on September 22, 2021.[7] Before the short's release, they were first pictured in a video uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel on July 3, 2021.[8] Concept art of the RA-7 protocol droid wearing geta by Takashi Okazaki was included in The Art of Star Wars: Visions, an art book written by Zack Davisson[9] that was published on October 5, 2022[10]
Geta also appeared in the one-shot comic Visions 1, written and illustrated by Okazaki and published by Marvel Comics[2] on October 12, 2022.[11] On June 15 of that year, a StarWars.com article revealed concept art created for the comic by Okazaki that depicted Shogun wearing their geta. The concept art labeled the footwear in Japanese as 下駄[1] (geta). In the real world, geta are a type of traditional Japanese wooden sandal.[12]
Geta appeared again in "The Duel: Payback," a sequel to "The Duel" released as part of the third volume of Visions. The short was produced by Kamikaze Douga and ANIMA and released on Disney+[4] on October 29, 2025.[13] Okazaki created concept art of CZ-D16 wearing geta that was included in the short's accompanying episode guide.[14]
