The garu-bear was a type of hibernating bear. When a freighter carrying the child Rey and her parents Dathan and Miramir emerged from hyperspace in Wild Space[1] in 21 ABY,[2] it hung momentarily in space like a garu-bear coming out of a long hibernation and taking stock of its surroundings.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the garu-bear was mentioned in the 2022 novel Shadow of the Sith, which was written by Adam Christopher.[1] The garu-bear originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was mentioned in the 2000 novel Balance Point, which was written by Kathy Tyers as part of the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order series.[3]
