- "I hear you are connected to certain individuals not friendly to the Empire."
"Is that so? Maybe I am. Maybe I am not. How do I know where your allegiance lies?" - ―A spacer and Garek
Garek was a male Sullustan spy who worked for the Rebel Alliance during the Galactic Civil War.
Biography
- "Our spies tell us that the Empire has formed a temporary alliance with the Rak'qua over in Station Gamma. We also think that they may have uncovered the location of our secret base. I need you to get in there and access the databank to find out if they have tracked down our brethren."
- ―Garek, to a spacer
Following the Battle of Yavin, Agent Garek was stationed on Tansarii Point Station, a space station located above Ord Mantell in the Bright Jewel system. During that time, he managed a network of Rebel spies collecting information regarding Imperial activity, including Rund Jesela and Adery Shrial.[1]
In 1 ABY,[3] Garek was very concerned about the Rak'qua, a Nautolan tribe living in Station Gamma, another space station in the Bright Jewel system. Rebels spies suspected that the Rak'qua had formed an alliance with the Galactic Empire, allowing Imperials to perform horrible experiments in the station. Garek therefore recruited a group of loyal Rebel spacers to investigate the situation.[2] To evaluate his new recruits, Garek first tasked them to retrieve datadisks with important information from Rebel agents on Tansarii Point Station. Although the datadisks only contained Grandma Drake's soup recipes, the spacers achieved their first mission.[1] They were later ordered to proceed to their new objective: the Rak'qua of Station Gamma. The spacers therefore raided the station, killing a number of hostile Rak'qua during the attack, and successfully sliced the Station Gamma databank. The spacers then returned safely to Tansarii Point Station and delivered the information to Agent Garek.[2] Although Rebel spies were right about an alliance existing between the Rak'qua and the Empire, this arrangement had in fact already been broken by the Rak'qua at that time.[4]
Behind the scenes
Garek appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[5] Garek was added to the game as part of the "New Player Tutorial,"[1] introduced with the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005.[6]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
