«Our protocol droid broke down a few years ago and the governor hasn't replaced it.»
―Wald, to ZED-6-7[1]

A protocol droid served at a colony of refugees on the planet Gabredor III. A few years before the Sith Lord Darth Vader's quest to destroy the Crimson Dawn criminal syndicate[1] between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,[2] the protocol droid broke down but was not replaced by[1] Tauntaza,[3] the governor of the planet, and the colony began to use the astromech droid Em-Sevenbee instead. During Vader's hunt for Crimson Dawn, he agreed to help the former handmaiden Sabé save the colony from the governor, who had begun to use the services of Crimson Dawn to consolidate her power and had neglected the people of her planet. Vader traveled to the colony, and after they arrived, the forensics droid ZED-6-7 asked to be directed to the colony's protocol droid so that Sabé's claims to Vader about the governor and colony could be confirmed. Wald, a member of the colony, then informed ZED-6-7 of the droid's fate.[1]
