- "Parking lot is nearly empty, sir. We have the Salliche, the Fremond, and the Electrum."
- ―A comm specialist, to Wilhuff Tarkin
The Fremond was a spacetug used by the Imperial Navy during the Imperial Era.[1] The starship shared its name with the Fremond system, located in the Inner Rim Territories.[2] In 14 BBY,[3] the Fremond was part of the flotilla belonging to the Imperial facility known as Sentinel Base, which was commanded by Moff Wilhuff Tarkin and oversaw the construction of the Imperial battle station[1] later known as the Death Star.[4]
At that time, when a fake transmission claimed that the nearby Rampart Station was under attack from a rebel cell, both the Fremond and the frigate Salliche were vacant and parked in stationary orbits over the moon Sentinel Base was situated on. When read a list of the base's starships by a comm specialist, Tarkin chose Sentinel's other available vessel, the combat-ready Venator-class Star Destroyer Electrum, to react to the attack.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Fremond was mentioned in the novel Tarkin, which was released in 2014 and written by James Luceno.[1]
