Forum:TC:Chain Lightning

This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion of the article below. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record.
The result of the debate was no consensus. My recommendation would be renominating it, but desiring merge rather than deletion — or discussing a possible merge on the talk page. - Sikon 17:11, 8 May 2007 (UTC).

Chain Lightning (talk - history - links - logs)

It's the same as Force lightning. I have no idea where the name "Chain" is actually present in Jedi Academy. It looks totally made up, especially with sentences like "As it was more powerful than the standard lightning, it required a greater amount of discipline and concentration to project and sustain the stream of lightning." • That's just an in-universe way of saying it cost more Force Points than regular Lightning. DarthMRN 13:14, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

  5. I was about to vote Merge, but I think as long as it's defined as a variation of the Force Lightning ability, then somebody searching for "Chain Lightning" should get this page. (Sorry about the missing signature earlier) - Esjs 14:39, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Merge

  1. Probably just machanics, but it deserves a sentance or two in Force Lightning. Din's Fire 997 01:05, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
  1. Well, due to this link sent by Jinko, and being called obsolete, I guess Chain Lightning exists after all. Stake black msg 01:13, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

#We should delete this. Isn't Jedi acadmey a video game? And video games are fanon.--Windu223 17:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Um, no. Video games are a hundred percent canon. Don't know where you got that from. Cull Tremayne 18:57, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

Comments

  • See this is why we need to merge and clean-up the force powers page. We get crap like this that is basically just game mechanics. Cull Tremayne 00:55, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
    • As long as we have Force Push, Force Pull, Force Blow, Force Repulse, Force Throw, Force Wave, Force Whirlwind, Combustion, Force Crush, Force Flight, Force Grip, Force Jump, Force Orb, Projected fighting, Force Protection, Protection Bubble, Saber barrier, Saber throw, Telekinetic lightsaber combat, and Force Wind, all which can be argued to be variants of Telekinesis, Chain Lightning goes pretty far down on the list of powers that need merging.

The name is confirmed by the Mysteries of the Sith game manual, which also treats it like a power.

The reason this wikia exists is because Wikipedia insisted on merging minor things. Our policy is to have an insignificant article on everything. Merging power variants deafeats the purpose of Wookieepedia.

And as far as power variations go, Chain Lightning actually deserves its own article, if only for its ability to shoot lightning from something else than your hand. Sort of, at least. DarthMRN 19:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

  • See Wookieepedia:Votes for deletion/Death Field. I think the same argument applies here. It's not a new or unique use of the Force IMO. Cull Tremayne 14:51, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
    • Are you kidding me? Death Field is just more potent than Drain. Chain Lightning actually provides a whole new effect in being able to shoot from one target to the next, which is pretty damn significant when you consider how Lightning is reknowned among powers for actually needing your hand to shoot from, and suddenly you have a variant that enables your to shoot from your target. If this one doesn't qualify as a power variety, then what, pray tell, does?! And I won't even start about the idiocy of debating a merge of this power when there are X variations of Telekinesis and Mind Trick out there begging to be merged. DarthMRN 02:14, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
