- "You see? The contest may take any form! Can you stand your ground now? No - these winds will pull you through the viewport into the reactor shaft. You can do nothing!"
- ―Darth Vader to Luke Skywalker
Force Wind was a dark side Force power. The user was able to manipulate and channel air currents, allowing them to create destructive tornadoes.[1]
During their duel on Cloud City, Darth Vader, to gain an advantage over Luke Skywalker and demonstrate his superior command of the Force, summoned a wind that pulled his opponent into one of the city's reactor shafts.[2]
Behind the scenes
The ability to manipulate winds using the Force first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back novelization and then in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back (1980) during Luke and Vader's duel on Cloud City. However, its appearance was ambiguous; it was not indicated whether the wind occurred naturally or had been summoned by Vader.[3] The Empire Strikes Back radio drama (1983) first specified that Vader had summoned the wind in the same way that he had unleashed a series of telekinetic attacks during the same scene.[2] The Jedi Academy Sourcebook (1996) defined Force Wind as a Dark Side power for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1]
