At the recent Mofference, we agreed to amend the newly renamed {{Top}} template to remove the Lucasfilm publishing eras from in-universe Legends articles. The temporary downside of doing so is that those era symbols now no longer auto-generate the Legends banner on these in-universe articles (for example, if a Legends article had {{Eras|reb}}, that automatically produced the "Legends" banner). Now, most Legends articles have to specify {{Top|type=legends}} to produce the banner, which is unnecessary long in the interest of making this template as efficient as possible in terms of text size. Therefore, I am proposing the following follow-up amendment to the Top template and both versions of the Layout Guide:

  1. The type=canon and type=legends parameters will be changed to can and leg, respectively
  2. The current "leg" parameter for the Legacy era will be changed to lgc

This will allow most in-universe Legends articles to more efficiently specify just the simple {{Top|leg}}. While at first glance of this proposal some people might feel like "leg" and "lgc" will be confusing, remember that "lgc" will only be used on a relatively small number of out-of-universe Legacy era articles (such as comic issues) and "leg" will be the common usage on the vast majority of articles. Over time, people will become well accustomed to implementing "leg" to produce the Legends banner and this will become second nature.

{{Top}}, Wookieepedia:Layout Guide, and Wookieepedia:Layout Guide/Out-of-universe will be amended to reflect this change, which is a simple swap of parameter names and explanations in the current instructions. So ultimately, the official hypothetical complete order of the IU and OOU Top template would be as follows:

  • IU: {{Top|fa|ffa|ga|fga|ca|fca|fprot|sprot|ssprot|mprot|noncanon|leg|legends=Ackbar (2)|canon=Ackbar|hide=1|title=''Gial Ackbar''|title2=''Imperial''-class|notitle=1|notoc=1}}
