So, something I've been meaning to do for a while is implement simpler parameters in {{Top}} for italicization, because pagemoves can often mess up the title= parameters, like the usage of just ''{{PAGENAME}}'' resulting in the parenthetical (or /Legends) being included after a pagemove. So I've gone ahead and done that, with the "italics=" parameter italicizing the entirety of the main title minus the parentheses, and "italics2=" doing the same for the parentheses, effectively replacing usages like "title=''{{PAGENAME}}''" and "title2=''Star Wars Insider''". The italicization is dynamically generated in the same logic that hides the /Legends and /Canon headers, so it'll always be accurate even after moving a page to /Legends or adding a descriptor.
Since Top usage is codified in the Layout Guide, here's the adjusted text for Wookieepedia:Layout Guide#Top template's fifth point; I also slipped in a ban on using the parameters for special-character workarounds, per the naming policy.
- Title formatting. The title of an article can be formatted through Top; for example, to add italicization. However, Top should not be used to modify the title text itself, only format it. To italicize the entirety of the page's title aside from the parenthetical descriptor, "italics=1" should be used, while "italics2=1" should be used to italicize the entire parenthetical descriptor. If more complex formatting is required, the parameters "title=FORMATTED TITLE" and "title2=FORMATTED TITLE" should be used accordingly to italicize parts of the title or to lowercase the first word of the full title. "notitle=1" should be used to prevent the automatic shrinking of text inside parentheses on pages where parentheses are part of the in-universe title (e.g. How to Get Banned (Have a Mind)). The title parameters should not be used to add additional special characters to the title that are restricted by technical limitations; the {{Correct title}} template must be used instead.

- This vote matters greatly to me because "{{Top|fa|pfa|ffa|ga|pga|fga|ca|pca|fca|fprot|sprot|ssprot|mprot|noncanon|ncl|leg|can}}" is a close family friend and I'm glad to see them acknowledged here.Fan26 (Talk) 19:51, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
