The result of the debate was repeal Hyperspace content policy. Green Tentacle (Talk) 20:18, September 7, 2012 (UTC)
Currently, site policy forbids the posting of unique images from Star Wars Hyperspace, the now-defunct starwars.com's club that had stories and such. See Wookieepedia:Hyperspace content and Wookieepedia:Images, Sources Rule 3. The key there is "now-defunct." Now that they aren't trying to make any money off of Hyperspace—and are denying those stories to everyone—why must we continue to forbid images from them? Especially when I wondered aloud about this in the IRC and two administrators professed no knowledge of the taboo, one saying that people have been uploading Hyperspace images and it wasn't perceived as strange. This is a vote to either strike the legacy policy and the related rule from the Image policy or to uphold it and follow it.
Repeal Hyperspace content policy

17:06, August 18, 2012 (UTC) - I feel like it's kind of our responsibility to pick up sw.com's slack and provide comprehensive information on content that they can't be arsed to host anymore. Menkooroo (talk) 18:00, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
- When you put it that way, this is a no-brainer. They're no longer making money off this stuff. But I do think we should give SW.com some form of heads-up or something, just in case. Cade Calrayn

- I stopped being a stickler for Hyperspace content when it shut down. We already have it all over the place, and I'm not deleting it, and I delete more than every other active admin combined. I loosened up further about fair use when they suddenly linked us without warning. (If I wasn't so vehemently opposed to letting this place become a social networking site, I might even be fine with loosening up user image policies nowadays.) And if you need further motivation, see User:Darth Culator/CSWE. Nobody asked if they could use our time and labor. Especially mine, but who's counting? Oh, wait, I did. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 03:02, August 21, 2012 (UTC)
- I was waiting to see what Culator preferred before voting on this, since he pretty much manages all images anyway. I'm very ok with this, now that SW.com has pretty much disowned everything that was ever associated with Hyperspace. As Menkooroo says, I think the responsibility falls to us to now document this stuff. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 03:05, August 21, 2012 (UTC)

- After giving it some thought, we have to make up for SW.com's mass-removal of content somehow. CC7567 (talk) 09:18, August 22, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, it's me! 22:08, August 24, 2012 (UTC) - It was nice of us to ignore fair use protections and acquiesce to SW.com's wishes, but now the time for that courtesy has passed. If they get mad, we can reconsider, but the law's on our side. ~Savage

- An important thing to remember: Fair Use law is never a given. That said, I think a reasonable calculus can be made that Fair Use applies here just as it does for images from other sources. jSarek (talk) 08:34, August 31, 2012 (UTC)

Keep Hyperspace content policy
- Even though they do not have Hyperspace or the subscription, it does not mean that we could go around and upload images against their original wish. I believe that we should get confirmation from them prior to rejecting this policy. Riff was contacted by Lucas Online not too long ago and it would have been ideal if someone suggested this around the time he was contacted. He could have then asked via a question. It does also look unprofessional if we just automatically reject a policy and upload multiple Hyperspace image due to the place being defunct. In my opinion, we should wait it out a bit until it is safe to do so. JangFett (Talk) 17:18, August 18, 2012 (UTC)

Discussion
- Before this vote goes further, I think we should first attempt to contact SW.com and ask them if we can use Hyperspace content. Would any admin be willing to do so? Cade Calrayn
18:13, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
- We always could and can use Hyperspace content. There's no physical difference between their content and any other source. The reason we didn't was to respect their wishes that it remain exclusive to their site that they made money off and it was our choice to not use them. SW.com didn't force us to. Now that that site is gone and they aren't making money, I don't see any way using the images would be "unprofessional." NaruHina Talk
19:46, August 20, 2012 (UTC) - It's worth noting SW.com did absolutely nothing to notify us that they were going to start linking to our articles in lieu of a database. I'm not saying whether that's right or justifies reciprocal behavior, just pointing out the precedent. DD97Which bear is best? 21:57, August 20, 2012 (UTC)
