Per Forum:SH:Partial blocks, v.2 (see there for reasoning), for Wookieepedia:Blocking policy:
Contents
Vote 1
Current text:
There are options to exclusively block a user from the Discussions forum or editing specific pages—however, full sitewide blocks should be used instead of partial blocks. A block's duration can be changed at any time using Special:Block and can be temporary or permanent.
Proposed text:
There are options to exclusively block a user from certain actions, such as: *Participating in the Discussions forum *Uploading files *Renaming pages *Editing specific pages or namespaces *Creating new pages *Sending thanks A partial block should not be used as standard, nor to block a user from exclusively Discussions. However, partial blocks may be issued in certain circumstances for restricting certain editing-related actions, particularly in cases where repeated warnings for policy violations have proved ineffective.
Move to be before the proposed text above, at the end of the first paragraph of technical usage:
A block's duration can be changed at any time using Special:Block and can be temporary or permanent.

- Fairly certain I abstained here because I believed these could be useful. Happy to see this happening. NBDani

- Absolutely. Just because a user can't seem to get one aspect of editing down doesn't mean we should block them from editing at all. We need all the help we can get, so let's stop shooting ourselves in the foot. Master Fredcerique

Vote 2: VEP
WP:VEP reads...
Blocked users are ineligible from all active votes for the duration of the block. Users who become blocked will have their active votes stricken with Votestruck.
We have two options: basically, the above text means that if we introduce partial blocks, "blocked users" will any form of blocked user, since they're 'blocked'/the subject of a ban by definition. Or we can amend policy to make it fully blocked instead of just blocked. If this goes no-con, the original text remains in place (for the record).
Keep as "blocked users are ineligible..."
Alter to "Fully blocked users are ineligible..."
- I think partial blocked users should still have a voice. NBDani

- If we can't trust them to vote they should be fully blocked anyway. Ayrehead02 (talk) 21:44, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

- I've thought about it, and I don't think the various edge cases are enough to say that a partially-blocked user should lose all voting rights. Partial blocks are intended as a team decision, and I'd think that someone who has proven themselves unfit for voting would have received a full block. Cade

Perhaps the wording should be altered to restricted for users who are partially restricted from certain actions and only use the word blocked for those who are fully blocked from all actions. - JMAS

- Did consider this, but would point out a few factors: partial blocks are issued via Special:Block (because they are blocks...) and they appear in the block log when issued. They also appear on a user's contributions page with the text "This user is currently blocked."; and, all of Fandom's help pages/places elsewhere on the platform will be calling the procedure 'partial blocks' or 'partial bans' so it'd make us inconsistent with everyone else and possibly confuse people. So, while I do kinda concur the word restricted might be more palatable, they're—by definition—blocks, so we should be calling them that.—spookywillowwtalk 03:09, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
