Hello! With my thanks to all fellow Wookieepedians who have provided invaluable feedback and suggestions on this topic, including on Forum:SH:Discord policy clean-up and on Discord itself, I hereby move for a revamp of the Wookieepedia:Discord (WP:DISCORD) page, applicable to Wookieepedia's official Discord server. Linked here is the proposed version of WP:DISCORD as a new policy page. Please see the diff between the current iteration of WP:DISCORD and the proposed version, should all subvotes below pass.

For fairness of process, I have split up this proposal into four subvotes separated by policy sections. I have also attached elaboration on practical changes to current policy that would be in effect if they are passed along with the rationale behind some of them (but please don't just take my word for it and refer to the permalink and diff links above). Introduction, "How to join," and "WookieeNights"

This subvote is for proposed changes to the introduction section as well as the "How to join" guide and the "WookieeNights" text at the bottom. This would include moving "How to join" up to the top of the body, for ease of access. This proposal would also preface the introduction with the official {{Policy}} template, moving it from the "Rules" section (although WP:DISCORD was originally created as a policy page (Forum:CT:Discord server), administrators have been allowed to make edits to sections beyond the "Rules" section).

The intro text would then specify that "server and channel access levels and rules" (e.g. the 50 edits/200 posts verification requirement, or which roles could access which channels) are subject to CT votes like this one, while codifying that admins can make future changes to the server structure itself and the role tables (introduced below, in subvote 2) in accordance with existing policies without the need for a community vote, similar to how admins have created new channels for new or re-activated WookieeProjects and the new Wookieepedia:WookieeProjects#Existing_WookieeProjects table on the wiki.

"Server structure" and "Roles"

This subvote is for proposed changes to the "Server structure" and "Roles" sections. Unlike Forum:CT:More Inclusive Discord Verification, no channel access permission would be affected by this change, as it only relates to swapping out text like "All Fandom users" or "Wookieepedians only" to "@Verified" and "@Wookieepedians," respectively.

Such roles would be made clear in the following table, which specify all the current visible roles within the Discord server along with their associated colours and clarify their existing rights. A subsequent table lists current bots, again with their server colours.

"User conduct"

This subvote is for the numbered list currently directly under the "Rules" section, which is also featured in the #info channel of the Discord server. The current nine points will be reduced to five points:

"Be respectful" (point 1) would be reworded from currently only mentioning "personal attacks" and "vicious abuse" and behaviour "on the wiki" to naming the new "user conduct policy" and specifying that it applies to "all Wookieepedians' interactions, including on Discord." "Maturity counts" (2) and "Stay on topic" (3) would be merged while removing the unnecessarily explicit requirement to respect a channel's purpose. "Our official language is English" (4) would also be removed, as spamming in another language is already covered by "No spamming" (5), which would largely stay the same and absorb the similar point of "No roleplaying" (6).

"Do not delete messages" (7) would be removed, lifting the restriction on deleting your own messages, while information about deletion logging would be added in an expanded "Moderation" section, introduced below (subvote 4). "No rumors or leaks" (8) would largely stay the same and be moved further up in the list. "Regarding VIPs" (9) would also largely stay the same but would additionally specify that the VIP role is for official Star Wars creators.

The mention of Discord's Terms of Service would remain. The list of "sanctions" that admins can enforce will be removed in favour of an expanded "Moderation" section, introduced below (subvote 4).

"Moderation" and "Chat logs and media"

The first paragraph would clarify the moderation powers and responsibilities of admins, bureaucrats, and Discussions moderators. Per Forum:CT:Administrators page, it would incorporate the clause about deleting private consultation channels upon archiving. The second paragraph would expand on and codify how message deletion works: the audit log that records deletions and how it's viewable to admins, and setting some limitations for admins considering deleting others' messages. The third paragraph specifies how warning, kicking, banning, and on-site blocking would work for policy violations.

Chat logs and media would cover any text, and, in addition to current policy, files too, that have been sent via Discord. It would mention and link to the Privacy policy. In addition to current rules, it would specify that content from the Wookieepedia Discord server "may also be disseminated privately with other Wookieepedians." It would lay out the conditions for sharing them on other public websites, repeated in full here:

Chat logs and media from all public Wookieepedia Discord channels may only be publicly disseminated on other public websites—such as social media and forums—if neither the identity (including username and profile picture) nor the affiliation (including their role) of the speaker(s) involved are revealed, unless each individual gives express consent for the specific site(s).

This was partly inspired by the Chatham House Rule and previous incidents on Wookieepedia, which have shown how damaging a screenshotting culture can be on this community. Obviously, as a previous part of the Discord policy says, chat logs of public channels "may be freely disseminated on the wiki"—which is publicly viewable—but at least Wookieepedia admins have some capacity to enforce any necessary policy or privacy requests on the wiki itself. This would also serve as a safeguard against outing users' Discord, particularly for our VIPs.
