Hi, I'm bringing this up straight to CT, I know (as usual, refer to bolded tldr below to skip the ramble. However, the amount of Discord changes discussed in the last months have been somewhat extensive and it'll take up several CTs anyway, so may as well get some of that out of the way. Discord changes are sometimes handled by just admins, but also, that process for gathering opinion can be a bit slower or be forgotten about & I figure this could just be tossed up on this Saturday and we can hammer it out so it can (maybe?) snowball.
I'm going to split this into two sections anyway to give it a better chance of passing, but for reference's sake: this is re: the leap day Discord discussion, so it was discussed a bit prior, though not through the full SH. It is however, minor, just wanted to see this part of it acted on. The relevant conversation reasons included wanting to incrementally work on opening up the Discord a bit more to encourage new users to join, as they only see like 2-3 channels, making it seem like it's dead, even though it costs us little to be more open. However, also brought up is that these channels may or may not have messages in them posted intended only for Wookieepedians, so it should be run through a CT.
Proposing that the @Verified role (those with a registered Fandom account, but not 50 edits or 250 postcount) can gain access to the listed channels:
- Part 1
- coding
- behind-the-scenes
- fandom-feedback
- wookieenights-text
- wookieenights-voice (during WookieeNights only, as outlined here)
- Part 2
- pets
- social

Part 1
For the channels listed under sub-bullet "Part 1" to grant @Verified access. The reason why these are grouped together is because they're primarily "editing/working" based.
Support
- New users might want to learn how to code, or need BtS help to ask Wookieepedians obscure questions. Or maybe a new user finds a bug, or just wants to chill and chat with us in voice call. Voice call especially—the more the merrier! (I don't understand why that channel is locked anyway, but that's a tangent).—spookywillowwtalk 02:53, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

- I'd prefer to keep those two channels limited to regulars. I know people will disagree strongly with my position because I'm essentially saying that I appreciate having a barrier between regulars and non-regulars, and yes, I'm not ashamed to say I do, because I want a space where I feel a minimum confortable sharing things with the core community, and with everything that happened in recent years, I just feel like this would dilute even more the sense of community some of us share. NanoLuukeCloning Facility 03:52, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- 100% agree with Nano. I understand the efforts to welcome new users, but for me, community specifically with the long-time users I've come to know as friends from over the years is most important. I see the social channel as a space for chatting with familiar faces, not the general masses, and would like to keep it that way. Wok142 (talk) 04:48, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

- Due to the more relaxed, casual nature of these channels, something that is a result of the safety people feel due to the higher barrier of entry, I think these should stay restricted. I know, I know. I'm always talking about opening things up to more people, but I think the first vote satisfies that while still leaving a place for users who have built strong relationships to have a place to congregate without needing to start a separate server. Discuss
- Regarding Spooky's point in Part 1 about the voice channel being locked, I think I remember it being said that an admin should always be present for any voice channel activities, so therefore it's not just open all the time for anyone to join with no admin present. Wok142 (talk) 04:54, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- That's correct; its listed in () so that we could let Verified users join during WookieeNights (which are then govered by that policy, which requires an admin).—spookywillowwtalk 04:58, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed, and part of it was about ensuring the voice channel was being monitored, and kept a safe place for people to engage. Supreme Emperor Holocomm 03:59, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

- Random thought, rather than looking at opening up the social channel to everyone, perhaps it would be better to look at revamping the current Discussions channel. For all intents and purposes, it's the "unverified social" channel anyways. Maybe rename it to something like "Unverified social" and update the description? Supreme Emperor Holocomm 04:03, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'd rather not, because the purpose of that channel is to tie directly to the Discussions forum. I'm prefer not remove that connection as we continue trying to bring the forum more into the wiki community. Master Fredcerique
