Hello all! I've been told that the {{Cr}} template can't be read by screenreaders, making its usage very inconvenient and less accessible. So I propose that we delete the template entirely.

Additionally, if the vote passes, I'm also proposing that we remove a related clause from the Wookieepedia:Layout Guide/In-universe. The clause currently can be seen under the infobox section and goes as the following:

"When denoting an item's cost in credits, use the term "credit" as standard rather than the credit symbol (credits)."

The point of the removal is beacuse of how inconsistent both the usage and template are, per the explanation above. Also, per Imp, this clause requires us to use the longer form of credit in infoboxes, but allows the shorter form (logo) in the article body. Even though the whole point of the infobox is to put out a more concise information.

For anyone interested, here are the CTs that passed the clause: 1 and 2

  1. Might I suggest decoupling the below vote from this one? It's not necessary to make the policy change contingent on this template's removal, and I believe the template should be kept for archival (e.g. so that the credit symbol is still shown if you look at old page revisions rather than an ugly, inexplicable template redlink), talk/forum pages that already use the template, and other purposes like User:OOM_224/Aurebesh#The_Last_Jedi where it could be useful to show a wee copy of the symbol to annotate Star Wars signs. 2. Per OOM. I also envision us needing this template for a quote eventually. NBDani TeamFireballLogo-Collider(they/them)Yeager's Repairs 14:30, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

  4. Screen reader issue solved with simple fix. (Although someone should test if it really works.) 01miki10 Open comlink 15:33, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
  5. Even had 01miki10 not been so quick with a fix, the first response to "a template has a technical problem" should be "let's fix the problem," not "let's delete the template." Asithol (talk) 06:18, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

  • Per OOM's suggestion, I'll separate the two votes. Bonzane10 Bonzane10-Sig 15:19, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
  • Just to be clear, based on the history of the previous CTs, the first CT established a ruling on the use of the template (by "[opposing] to use {{Cr}} in infoboxes rather than the full word "credits" when listing the cost or value or something"), then the second CT established the use of a certain standard (the vote was exactly "Standardize use of "credits" in infobox", with no further comments/counterexamples or how the policy should be updated...), with Toprawa concluding the vote with the ruling "Use "credits" in infobox as standard rather than {{Cr}}" (his own words, not that of the editor who created the vote), and then proceeded to update the Layout Guide with a policy wording THAT WAS NOT previously proposed during the vote (ugh...). Anyway, the removal of the close in the LG does not overturn the original vote that opposed the used of the template on the infobox, since the second vote was just about standardize the use of "credits" over any other possible format (that may or may not have been in used at the time). • What first vote opposed was the requirement to use {{Cr}} instead of "credits" in infoboxes. It didn't oppose the template itself. 01miki10 Open comlink 18:55, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
      • That's what I said, yes...? NanoLuukeCloning Facility 19:08, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
        • I may have misunderstood, you seemed to be saying that the first vote disallowed the template in infoboxes, which it didn't by my interpretation. 01miki10 Open comlink 19:34, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
