To follow up on Forum:SH:Citing messages from Official Discords. Expedited because Hunters.
To add to WP:CANON's "What is not a reliable resource?" section at the end (note: there are two sections on the canon policy named the same; this refers to the first one, which hosts the info about social media posts):
In limited circumstances, messages from Discord may also be used as citations. All Discord messages must follow the social media post specifications detailed above regarding treatment of in-universe information and polite conduct toward Star Wars creators.
Discord messages must first be codified via a Consensus track and then added to [LINK TO SS TABLES] before being used as citations. The only exceptions to the Consensus track requirement are as follows:
- The message originated from a Star Wars creator in Wookieepedia's Discord who has been verified with the @VIP server role.
- The message originated from one of the following Official Discord servers, as defined below:
- Star Wars: Hunters Discord (invite link)
- ILM Immersive Discord (invite link)
- In all exception cases, the Discord message must still be documented on [SS TABLES LINK] with all relevant information to be considered valid.
For ease, will go ahead and add a note in the formal sense that, while we currently use {{Discord}}; that'll be renamed to {{WookDiscord}} (to echo {{WookYouTube}}). Any messages from servers that aren't Official Discords would then use a new Discord template. Depending on usage amount, we may choose to sub-template out Official Discords to have their own template and be a bit more eye-catching/have the logo. And obviously, grace period for Wook's already-used Discord citations to be put into the table; they're so few that it won't take long and I'll do it myself if it passes.
But, yes: essentially due to Hunters going down and being unsure if its Discord will remain, its being proposed and put through now, rather than later in the year. However, additional Official Discords can be CT'd into the above list over time: this is just the first two of note that definitely have valid citations to be putting onsite as it stands now. These servers both have public invite links and are easily identifiable as "official" via their respective social media pages and etc., as well. Here is a copy of what those screenshot tables would look like.—spookywillowwtalk 18:07, 28 March 2025 (UTC)
