- "Then, I suppose the only flying I'll get to do is playing Flight Simulator Squadron."
"Wait. You have Flight Simulator Squadron?"
"All three of them. Do you want to play?" - ―Torra Doza and Kazuda Xiono
Flight Simulator Squadron was a flight simulator hologame that could be played by two individuals. Players would race their starships by moving their bodies to control their ship's movements. There were three different versions of the game, and the Ace pilot Torra Doza owned all three, which she played in her room in Doza Tower on the refueling station Colossus. In 34 ABY, Doza played Flight Simulator Squadron with her friend Kazuda Xiono.

Flight Simulator Squadron gameplay
Flight Simulator Squadron was a flight simulator hologame in which a player raced against another in a starship while avoiding asteroids and an occasional exogorth that could pop up from the top of the screen. The game utilized gesture controls from the player in order to pilot[1] the computer-generated[2] starship, requiring players to move their bodies to play. Flight Simulator Squadron also included music that would play during the game. In total, there were three versions of the game.[1] There were other games similar to Flight Simulator Squadron, such as the arcade game Space Slug Slam 6,[3] which featured similar graphics and challenges but involved a single player interacting with a 2D monitor and piloting the starfighter with two shiftable sticks.[4]
History
- "I'm gonna crush you at that Flight Sim."
"I'd like to see you try." - ―Kazuda Xiono and Torra Doza prepare to face off in Flight Simulator Squadron
Kazuda Xiono was excited to play Flight Simulator Squadron.
The human Ace Torra Doza owned the three versions of the game in her quarters on the refueling station Colossus.[1] In 34 ABY,[5] Doza's father Imanuel restricted her from flying due to the presence of the First Order on the station, so Doza was left to play Flight Simulator Squadron instead of flying her ship,[1] the Blue Ace.[6] Later, when speaking with her friend, the mechanic and pilot Kazuda Xiono, and complaining about her flight restrictions, she sullenly said that the only flying she could do was play Flight Simulator Squadron. Xiono was excited to learn that she owned the game, and Doza happily invited him to her quarters in Doza Tower to play. The two proceeded to sneak into the tower, as Doza was not allowed to have guests, but eventually made it to her room. The two played one of the versions of the game until the security droid 4D-M1N approached, causing them to abort the game so Xiono could hide.[1]
Behind the scenes
Flight Simulator Squadron concept art created by Colas Guathier.
Flight Simulator Squadron first appeared in "Secrets and Holograms,"[1] the tenth episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Resistance, which was released on December 2, 2018.[7] The game was originally pictured on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on September 14 of the same year[8] before being identified in the episode.[1] Flight Simulator Squadron was created as a cross between the real-world video games Asteroids and Dance Dance Revolution. In early drafts of the episode, the game was not a flight simulator and instead involved players navigating "an Ewok through lasers fired by stormtroopers."[9] Concept art of Flight Simulator Squadron was done by Lucasfilm Animation artist Colas Gauthier. Multiple assets were created as part of the design, with one work by Guathier being dated to May 12, 2017.[10]
