Yabol Opa was a terrestrial planet[4] located in the Yabol Opa system[3] of the Colonies[1] and the Interior.[2] It was also situated in grid square M-9 of the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] and the super-hyperroute[5] known as the Perlemian Trade Route linked Yabol Opa to the Castell system as well as the Core Worlds' Brentaal system.[1]
By 22 BBY,[6] the University of Yabol Opa had expanded to encompass the entire surface of the planet. At that time, the Grand Warden—and the absolute ruler—of the university was Solokin Sakellar, who maintained a skyscraper lodge on the galactic capital, the Core Worlds planet Coruscant.[4]
Behind the scenes
Yabol Opa's name was introduced in the current Star Wars canon in "The History of Neimoidia,"[7] an article written by Mark Newbold[8] and included in the "Guide to the Galaxy" department of the fifty-second issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine[7] that was published around December 30, 2015.[9] The planet-wide University of Yabol Opa was subsequently mentioned in the 2016 re-issue[4] of the 2005 reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations.[10] In the book, the planet was mentioned[4] in a republished section from Simon Beecroft's 2003 Star Wars Legends reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones.[11] The 2009 Legends reference book The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, later identified the planet by its name.[12]
The Yabol Opa system was eventually identified by name in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the canon Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com[3] on June 24, 2025. Both works, which built upon material included in The Essential Atlas, were authored by Jason Fry,[13] with Fry having previously stated that the star systems listed in the Appendix section of The Essential Atlas were named after the most prominent planets or celestial bodies located in those systems. This article therefore similarly considers Yabol Opa to be named accordingly.[14]
