"Legends say they used to be Jedi, but legends can't always be trusted..."
―A Rendellian[1]

The Wild Squadron was a rumored group of ghosts who scoured the stars each Life Day to collect the souls of the damned to join them in their unending hunt. According to legend, the Wild Squadron used to be Jedi, but had accumulated the souls of hundreds of smugglers, pirates, and even Imperials. The legend also claimed that they could be heard whispering over comms to "join the hunt."[1] The Espirion Saan shared a story of the Wild Squadron to Company 77 member Fry as he attempted to access the ruins of DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station on Kef Bir.[2]

According to Saan's tale, during the Imperial Era, an old Rendellian shared the legend of the Wild Squadron with the Imperial pilot Rode on the planet Bray. Much later, during the construction of the Death Star II over the forest moon Endor, Rode relayed the ghost story to fellow pilot Gatt on Life Day ahead of a simple system patrol. While out on the patrol, Gatt found herself unable to hear her squadmates over comms, nor see them visually or on scanners. The panicked pilot soon heard a whisper through her comms begging her to "join the hunt" accompanied by numerous ships on her scanners array.[1]

A ghostly Jedi Vector burst into Gatt's vicinity flown by a four-eyed, sharp-fanged ghost in Jedi apparel. The Imperial pilot shot at the ship, but her laser bolts passed harmlessly through it. The Wild Squadron member returned fire with two animalistic ghosts that penetrated Gatt's TIE fighter and took the form of an Ewok, a Trandoshan, a Nautolan and a Mon Calamari to claw at her. The Jedi ghost ripped off Gatt's helmet and grasped her face, forcing her to confront that she was face-to-face with the Wild Squadron.[1]

The effect of the ghosts caused Gatt to slam into her controls, careening her ship into her commander's, exploding them both. As Rode attempted to call for help from the space station, he too fell victim to the isolating effects of the ghosts. His cockpit was invaded by the menacing ghost of Gatt, who demanded he also join the hunt.[1]

The Wild Squadron supposedly flew many types of starships, including ARC-170 starfighters, Y-wings,Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptors, Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors, Jedi Vectors, N-1 starfighters, T-47 airspeeders, and X-wings.[1]
