- "I'll kill you!"
- ―The droid, to Kouru
An RA-7 protocol droid bounty hunter served as a guard of a village on the planet Genbara, as part of a group of guards commanded by a Trandoshan. When the village was attacked by a group of bandits led by a Sith named Kouru, the guards attempted to defend the villagers. The protocol droid fired upon the Sith with a blaster cannon, and the bandit leader used her lightsaber parasol to deflect the fire, revealing her Sith allegiance. After the Sith killed the Trandoshan commander, the droid retaliated, firing upon the bandit. However, the Sith charged at the guard, slicing its weapon in two, before destroying the droid. After a wandering former Sith known as the Ronin stepped in to duel the Sith, he threw the droid's body at the bandit to distract her.

The droid fires at Bandit Troopers on Genbara
Twenty years after the unsuccessful Sith rebellion, the RA-7 protocol droid bounty hunter served as a hired bodyguard to protect a village on the Outer Rim planet Genbara. They were part of a group of several other guards, including a Trandoshan commander, a Tusken Raider sniper, a Gran bodyguard, and a Dug bounty hunter piloting a bladed probot. They were hired within the context of three other nearby villages in those mountains being destroyed by what a local woodcutter described as spirits who did not accept settlers in the region.[1]
When the village was attacked by Bandit Troopers aligned with the Sith Kouru, the guards intervened to defend the villagers after the acting village chief gave the signal.[1] The protocol droid entered the main square[2] from an alley and fired at several bandits using its[1] chaingun.[5]
Bitter end
- "Commander!"
- ―The RA-7 droid, as Kouru Force chokes the Trandoshan commander
During the skirmish, Kouru emerged from the bandits' troop transport.[1] The Trandoshan commander ordered her to surrender, and when she refused, the droid fired their rotary blaster cannon at her. Kouru deflected the bolts with her lightsaber parasol, and, upon seeing her red blade, the droid warned the others that she was a Sith. In panic,[1] the RA-7 droid once more fired several bolts at the bandit leader,[2] who successfully deflected all of them.[1] The commander ordered all of the bodyguards to sustain fire against the Sith bandit, but she again deflected everything.[2]
The RA-7 droid's carcass is hurled at Kouru
Kouru lept from the vessel onto the main square, where she Force choked the Trandoshan commander. The droid called for their commander as the Sith impaled him with her lightsaber parasol. Witnessing the Trandoshan's death,[2] the droid cursed[1] that they would kill her, and once more opened fire with their chaingun. Kouru spun her lightsaber parasol rapidly to deflect the bolts and sprinted towards the droid, slicing their rotary blaster cannon with her lightsaber.[2] She then swiftly bisected the droid.[1]
A former Sith known as the Ronin, who was at the nearby Tono's Teahouse, walked to the main square and engaged in a lightsaber duel with her. As the protocol droid's carcass sparked on the far side of the square, the Ronin used the Force to throw the RA-7 droid's dismembered torso onto Kouru, and in defense, she sliced the droid once more.[1]
Personality and traits
The droid uses its chaingun to mow down the bandits
The guard was an RA-7 protocol droid[2] with male programming,[4] who stood at over 1.70 meters tall.[3] The droid had a dark sensor,[2] silver plating and a carbon-scored chassis.[1]
Skills and abilities
Despite being a protocol droid, the guard was capable of operating a chaingun effectively, taking out multiple opponents during the skirmish on Genbara.[5]
Equipment
During the firefight against the Bandit Troopers, the guard fought with an ornamented chaingun[5] and a rifle topped with a cover. They also carried on their shoulders a large, rectangular backpack fitted with multiple mechanical components. A flexible hose ran from the backpack to the[3] rotary blaster cannon[1] that the droid held in its hands. They also wore geta sandals and loose, knee-length pants that were slightly puffed around the thighs and cinched below the knees.[3]
Behind the scenes
Sketch of the droid
The RA-7 protocol droid first appeared in "The Duel," a non-canon short film released as part of the first volume of the Star Wars: Visions series, produced by Kamikaze Douga, and released on Disney+[2] on September 22, 2021.[6] Before the short's release, the droid was first pictured in a video uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel on July 3, 2021.[7] The character was voiced by Ikuto Kanemasa in the original Japanese and by Michael Sinterniklaas in the English dub.[2]
Originally designed by Takashi Okazaki,[8] the protocol droid also appeared in the non-canon novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, written by Emma Mieko Candon[1] and published on October 12, 2021.[9] According to Candon, all of the bounty hunters were deliberately gendered as male.[4] Concept art pieces for the droid were visible in the episodes "Origins"[10] and "The Duel" in the Star Wars: Visions Filmmaker Focus featurette series, released on Disney+[8] on the same day as the short film.[11] Detailed frontal and rear views, and a size comparison chart in which the character has a sedge hat and different weapons were included in Zack Davisson's 2022 reference book The Art of Star Wars: Visions.[3]
