"He's gone isn't he? Dead, I mean."
"What makes you think that?"
"You sent him to the Engai system weeks ago, to root out smugglers. Then we heard there was a complication. Then we heard nothing. None of the masters will say."
―Yuehiro and Hanrai — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[1]

The Engai system was a star system that Jedi master Numoda was sent to by Jedi lord Hanrai to root out smugglers. The Jedi apprentice Yuehiro and other apprentices in Hanrai's Jedi clan later heard there was a complication, after which the clan's masters refused to speak about the situation. Yuehiro came to believe that Numoda was dead, although his bones were not returned to Hanrai's shrine as they should have been.[1]

Weeks after Numoda was sent to the Engai system, Yuehiro snuck into Hanrai's library in his home estate on the astronomical object Watoru to read records about a Sith witch rumored to have been resurrecting the dead, causing battlefields to leave no bodies. After Yuehiro was caught, he explained to Hanrai his belief that Numoda had died after being sent to the Engai system and said he hoped to learn about the missing bodies of Numoda and other Jedi by researching the witch.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Engai system was mentioned in the 2021 non-canon novel Ronin: A Visions Novel, written by Emma Mieko Candon.[1] Like all names in the novel, the Engai system's name is comprised of phonemes used in the Japanese language.[2]
