Eve Byre was a human female who served as a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era.[1] After the death of her first Padawan, Zaph Mora, she took on another Padawan, Cam Lindon.[2]
Biography
In 228 BBY,[3] Eve Byre travelled onboard the Vessel with her Padawan Zaph Mora to Oisin to deliver supplies to the locals. During the trip, she and Zaph sparred and meditated. When Affie Hollow came to check on them, she explained that their mission was to help the Oisinians to develop a sustainable society regardless of what disruptions the Nihil conflict might have caused. As they prepared to land on Oisin, they crossed paths with a Nihil ship coming to raid the planet. She ordered the crew to bring the Vessel twenty meters above the raiding ship and then jumped out with her Padawan. They breached the hull of the Nihil ship and caused it to crash land. After downing the ship, she directed the Osinian soldiers to secure three Nihil prisoners. She thanked Hollow for her help after the cargo was unloaded. Hollow gave her a specialized comlink with a homing device that was directly connected to the Vessel so Byre could contact them when she needed to be picked up. Byre and Mora stayed on Oisin to help the Oisians with their fortification plans. While there, the Jedi hunter Sicarus landed on the planet and attacked the two Jedi with a pack of Nameless. Byre was captured when she was overwhelmed by the effect of the creatures. She was kept in a cage on Sicarus's shuttle when he travelled to Tolis to kill Reath Silas and Cohmac Vitus. Left alone when Sicarus took the Nameless to hunt the Jedi, she managed to activate the homing signal on the comlink she had gotten from Hollow. She was almost catatonic and covered in filth when she was rescued by Hollow from the cage she was confined to. Byre was returned to Coruscant for treatment and care at the Jedi Temple. She was visited by Hollow and thanked the woman for rescuing her. They talked about Mora's death and how Byre was doing in her recovery.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "Tears of the Nameless also introduces the character of Jedi Master Eve Byre. [S]he speaks with a classic British accent and can sometimes come across as a little prim, but once you get to know her she has a soft centre with a streak of dry humour. She’s a master of endurance, as people will soon discover—she has to face a LOT, and do it without breaking. In many ways, for me, she very much typifies the Jedi of the High Republic and what they represent—the Order at its peak; resolute, strong-willed, powerful and sure of their beliefs."
- ―George Mann
Eve Byre first appeared in the 2024 young-adult novel The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless, written by George Mann and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[5] In an interview, Mann stated that Byre was key to future The High Republic storytelling.[4] When coming up with the design for Byre, artist Jake Bartok was provided with a brief description by Mann and had a lot of room to come up with her design. One piece that Bartok submitted included a Hakama styled skirt that called back to attire worn by Ben Kenobi or Jocasta Nu, with the author noting it would be interesting to see the skirt's twirl if he ever had the chance to draw her in action.[6]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As
Star Wars: The High Republic Chronological Reader's Guide on StarWars.com (article) (backup link) places The High Republic: Tears of the Nameless between the events of "No Big Deal" and The Wedding Spectacular, its events must also be set in 228 BBY.
