"You need a blaster with enough punch."
―Padmé Amidala, on her ELG-3A[7]

The ELG-3A blaster pistol, also known as the Naboo royal pistol[1] or the royal blaster pistol,[8] was a model of diplomatic[4] hold-out blaster pistol manufactured by the SoroSuub Corporation,[2] and also attributed to Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc.[1] The Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala, used an ELG-3A blaster pistol during the Battle of Naboo, as did several of her Handmaidens. The compact weapon was designed for easy concealment and came in both a short and extended barrel version.[2] Two of the blasters with the shortened barrels were kept in a secret compartment of the Queen's throne in the Theed Royal Palace, which came in useful as last resort weapons.

The ELG-3A was a lightweight, elegant, and functional hold-out blaster pistol designed for practical use and easy concealment.[1] It was a small, sleek weapon with a polished chrome finish and a wooden grip,[5] and fired green[5] or blue bolts, as well as a stun setting.[9] The slim blaster was fired using a snap trigger, which required a firm squeeze to prevent misfires.[1] Despite being a small blaster, it still packed a punch,[10] and it was able to destroy an IG-86 sentinel droid with a shot to the chest[11] or a BX-series droid commando with a headshot, despite the droid's titanium-reinforced steel heavy armor.

Padmé Amidala utilized a ELG-3A

The ELG-3A became practically a standard accessory for diplomats and nobles in need of a personal sidearm. Padmé Amidala and her Naboo Royal Handmaidens carried the extended-barrel version,[1] and utilized the weapons during the Battle of Naboo. [5]

As Senator of Naboo, Amidala mainly carried the long-barrel version of the blaster during the period leading up to and during the Clone Wars. Amidala wielded an ELG-3A during missions to Naboo,[12] the Coruscant Underworld,[13] and when she was under threat of assassination on Alderaan, getting the jump on bounty hunter Aurra Sing and stunning her with a single shot.[9] However, when she was attacked by the bounty hunters Chata Hyoki and Robonino, Amidala used the short-barrel model to defend herself.[14]

Behind the scenes

Ultimate Star Wars cites the weapon's manufacturer as Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc., although also credits it as a SoroSuub ELG-3A. In Legends material, the blaster was a SoroSuub spin-off of the Merr-Sonn product, the Q2 hold-out blaster. Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy, released by Dorling Kindersley on November 19, 2024 confirms SoroSuub as the manufacturer. It also confirms that the blaster comes in both a short and extended barrel variation. This rendered the short-barrel model being identified as the Q2 hold-out blaster in Gadgets and Gear and Build the Millennium Falcon 62 as obsolete.
