During the New Republic Era, a dogfight occurred in an asteroid belt at the edge of Nevarro's system around the year 9 ABY.

The battle

In 9 ABY,[3] High Magistrate Greef Karga had a showdown with Vane and pirates from Gorian Shard's pirate gang on Nevarro. Later, while traveling through the space above Nevarro, Djarin told Grogu that there was more being a Mandalorian than fighting. He added that navigating was useful since no one never knew where one was heading next. Djarin showed Grogu a hyperspace map and told him he could determine his range by looking at the fuel gauge. The ship's proximity alert rang, warning Djarin about the presence of pirates starfighters.[1]

Vane sought to avenge the deaths of four of his brothers and reminded Djarin that they served the Pirate King Gorian Shard. Djarin responded that Shard should stick to hijacking and ransoming before pulling the accelerator. Djarin led the pirate starfighters on a chase through an asteroid field. One of the pirate ships crashed into an asteroid, but the others continued their chase. Djarin gained the upper hand and ran circles around his pursuers, shooting several starfighters down. One of the pirate ships crashed into a mining platform on an asteroid.[1]

Despite these losses, Vane drove Djarin's starfighter towards Captain Shard's warship. Pirate gunners aimed their weapons at Djarin's N-1 starfighter. Shard warned Djarin that he had guns trained on him. Djarin responded that he had no quarrel with him, but Shard reminded Djarin that he had just destroyed four of his starfighters. Shard demanded that Djarin surrender in return for sparing his life. Djarin told Grogu to never trust a pirate before pushing the accelerator, causing the N-1 starfighter to shoot past the bridge of Shard's warship. Shard growled in rage.[1]

  3. 3.0 3.1 Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition, SWInsider "A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, the latter of which includes "Chapter 17: The Apostate," must all be set in 9 ABY as well.
