- "In all my years I've never encountered something like this. Though I have seen cases of Dexstri Skin Pox that leave behind lumps on the skin."
"Isn't that contractable by meat?" - ―Char-Ryl-Roy and Gella Nattai
Dexstri Skin Pox was a type of pox that could be contracted by encountering meat. During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Master Char-Ryl-Roy encountered cases of the illness that had resulted in lumps being left behind on the afflicted's skin. While on the Outer Rim planet E'ronoh[1] in 382 BBY,[2] he and Jedi Knight Gella Nattai investigated the poisoning of the Kage Path of the Open Hand cult member Abda. Char-Ryl-Roy indicated he had never witnessed anything similar to the blisters littering Abda's skin but noted he had witnessed the Dexstri Skin Pox leave behind skin lumps in the past. When Nattai inquired about the pox, the Jedi Master confirmed it was transmissible via meat.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Dexstri Skin Pox was mentioned in Convergence, a 2022 novel written by Zoraida Córdova as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase II.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Dexstri Skin Pox was a meat parasite first introduced in The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook. The 1996 roleplaying guide was authored by Kathy Tyers and Eric S. Trautmann and released as a supplement for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3]
