- "Their sharp talons and substantial size keep them near the top of the food chain, although dewback eggs—which are buried within the sand—are easy fodder for hungry predators. To compensate, females produce anywhere from fifty to eighty-five eggs per year, keeping the species' numbers sustainable."
- ―From the journal of Ardis San Tekka
Dewback eggs were the eggs produced by the reptillian dewback species found in the deserts of the planet Tatooine. Although the omnivorous dewbacks were near the top of the world's foodchain, their eggs were vulnerable to predators. To compensate for this and keep the species' population sustainable, dewback females produced between fifty and eighty-five eggs per year and buried them beneath the sand. Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts Director of Creature Cartography Ardis San Tekka mentioned dewback eggs when writing about dewbacks in her journal[1] at some point after the Battle of Exegol in 35 ABY.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, dewback eggs were mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars Bestiary, Vol. 1: Creatures of the Galaxy, which was written by S.T. Bende.[1] The eggs originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were mentioned in Galaxy Guide 7: Mos Eisley, a 1993 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Martin Wixted and published by West End Games.[3]
