This article is about the Delmaasi pirates. You may be looking for the Delmaas system.

The Delmaasi pirates[1] originated from the Delmaas system[1][2] of the Outer Rim Territories.[3] The group was active during the latter years of the Republic Era. After the Clone Wars erupted,[1] fought from 22 BBY to 19 BBY,[4] the Confederacy of Independent Systems had supported piracy and privateering organizations, although secretly as numerous Separatist worlds had suffered from pirate raids for centuries. Offering government-issued letters of marque into their naval force, Head of State Count Dooku neglected capturing those that opposed the Galactic Republic, including the Delmaasi pirates. He instead contracted them through signed terms to exclusively target the Republic and even agreed to purchase their stolen materiel from the democracy.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Delmaasi pirates were introduced in the current Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.[1] In Star Wars Legends, the Delmaasi pirates were introduced in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a 2012 reference book authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.[5]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. Given this principle, this article makes a similar basic assumption for Delmaasi pirates in relation to Delmaas system.
