"Lots of Mining Guild TIES in the Cron Belt, but Chewie and me can take 'em out with the quad cannons."
―Han Solo, in the Smuggler's Guide[3]

The Cron Drift or Cron Belt was a dense asteroid field in the Outer Rim Territories' Auril sector, near the Perlemian Trade Route, the Salin Corridor and the Tion Cluster, that contained the rubble of dozens star systems. It was estimated to have occurred thousands of years before the Imperial Era. Once a nebula where stars were born, the region became a dangerous hyperspace hazard filled with gravitational anomalies, asteroids, and black hole.[1]

History

After the Umbaran Sly Moore was kidnapped from her homeworld Umbara by the Sith apprentice Darth Maul, she encountered the spirits of long-dead Sith Lords in an ancient tomb in the Cron Drift and was spiritually attacked by them.[4]

At some point, the Imperial Navy restricted the traffic to the Cron Drift.[1] The pirate Hondo Ohnaka once planned shaak-breeding scam in the Drift. Smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca were once involved in a scam with the criminal Big Bunji running counterfeit Authority cash vouchers to the poor people on the far side of the Drift. In the logbook Smuggler's Guide, Solo noted that the Mining Guild had many Guild TIE fighters stationed in the drift, but expressed confidence that he and Chewbacca could use the quad laser cannons on the Millennium Falcon to destroy them.[3]

Behind the scenes

The Cron Drift was first canonically mentioned in the Fantasy Flight Games roleplaying manual Nexus of Power.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Drift first appeared in the novel Han Solo and the Lost Legacy[5] and was an asteroid field in the Auril sector created by the Cron Supernova.[6]
