"Cascading system failure. Best guess, he needs a compound regulator, but he's a museum piece."
―Gedeek Obaz while examining ND-5[1]

A compound regulator was a component used in the power core of BX-series droid commandos.[1]

In 3 ABY,[2] after ND-5, a BX-series droid, suffered damage while attacking the Imperial Kassina Outpost on Akiva and began experiencing a cascading system failure. After an initial examination, a Rodian droidsmith named Gedeek Obaz determined that ND-5 likely needed a Compound Regulator to address the failure. Unwilling to give up on ND, Kay Vess and Gedeek took ND to Temmin Wexley's shop in the city of Myrra on Akiva. Temmin lead the group to a tunnel lead from the basement of his shop to a Clone Wars era Separatist droid factory. The group eventually stumbled upon a group of rebels which agreed to help find a Compound Regulator if Vess helped free some of their people from the Hutt Cartel. After succeeding in freeing the rebels, Vess returned to the rebel base in time to help Gedeek insert a new regulator into ND-5.[1]

Behind the scenes

Compound regulators first appeared in the 2024 Massive Entertainment video game Star Wars Outlaws that was published by Ubisoft. In the game it was used as an ship upgrade material to improve the Trailblazer's weapons and shields.[1]
