The common cold or simply cold was an illness that could be caught by wampas on Hoth. Snot would come out of the sick wampa's nose and it would start sneezing.^[1] During or after 34 ABY,^[2] the Safari droid SF-R3 "Aree" of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts was dispatched to Hoth in order to treat a wampa which had been sickened with the common cold. After first taking the wampa's temperature, Aree tried to expose the wampa to heat in various ways, as this was the treatment for most species. Eventually, Aree lit a fire in the Wampa's cave, causing the wampa to sneeze, which in turn caused snow to fall from the ceiling onto the wampa and Aree. The cold temperatures of the snow instantly cured the wampa, causing Aree to realize that exposure to cold was the treatment for a Wampa with the common cold.^[1]

Behind the scenes

The common cold first appeared in the fifth episode of the Star Wars Galaxy of Creatures webseries, "Wampa,"^[1] released on October 28, 2021.^[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the cold was first mentioned in the sixty-first issue of the Marvel Star Wars series of comics.^[4] It was written by David Michelinie and Walt Simonson, who also illustrated the comic, and published on July 1982.^[5] The cold first appeared in the Ewoks season two episode "Hard Sell,"^[6] released on October 25, 1986.^[7]
