The Commissars of Grizmallt were a shipbuilding organisation loyal to the Galactic Republic that shared their name[1] with the planet Grizmallt.[2] Following the Republic's use of vessels manufactured secretly in the shipyards of Kuat Drive Yards during the First Battle of Geonosis[1] in 22 BBY,[3] the Commissars ordered countless industrial spies and starship designers to reduce their competitor's competitive lead for the Republic's new contracts as the Clone Wars began. The Arch-Provost of Rendili–another competitor to the Commissars–did similar, and due to Rendili's extensive system of smaller shipyards across the Mid and Outer Rim, they had a strong advantage with the potential to grant them temporary ascendancy.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, the Commissars of Grizmallt were first mentioned in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Complete Vehicles. It was part of material reprinted[4] from the 2002 reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Incredible Cross-Sections, which was written by Curtis Saxton and marked the Commissars' first mention in the Star Wars Legends continuity.[5]
