Coal was a type of black object that was used in braziers. The phrase "not the warmest coal in the brazier" described someone who is cold and distant.[1] In 382 BBY,[2] the thief Tey Sirrek used this phrase to describe the Jedi Knight Oliviah Zeveron.[1]

Coal was first mentioned in the non-canon LEGO activity book LEGO Star Wars: Build Your Own Adventure, released in 2016.[3] It was later introduced into the Star Wars canon by the novel Path of Vengeance, written by Cavan Scott as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia series in 2023.[1]
