- "I need a medic here, medic!"
- ―A clone trooper during the Battle of Christophsis calling a medic
A clone medic was a clone trooper in the Grand Army of the Republic that served as a medic. Kix was a clone medic in the 501st Legion.[4] and wore the symbol of the Republic Medic Corps on his left shoulder.[5]
Description
Role
Clone medics[6] were clone troopers of the Galactic Republic created by the Kaminoans of the planet Kamino, trained specifically to treat fellow clones of the bounty hunter Jango Fett.[7] When the health of troopers is in question, clone medics outrank all other troopers in a team, including captains.[2] They were organized under the Republic Medic Corps[5] in addition to whatever infantry unit they were assigned.[8]
Equipment
Clone medic Kix, who donned the blue markings of the 501st along with the red symbol of the Republic Medic Corps.
Medics were equipped with portable medical droids, a medical crate of specialized field equipment, and a backpack of medical equipment. Among the medical equipment was a variety of bacta supplies[7] including bacta grenades[3] and bacta patches.[2] Aside from bacta gear, medics carried medpacs[3] and slings for injured arms.[2] While prioritizing the medical well-being of their brothers, clone medics were also equipped with DC-15A blaster carbines for combat, and later utilizing DC-17 repeater hand blasters.[3]
At the start of the Clone Wars between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and Galactic Republic, standard clone medics were distinguished by red markings similar to Clone Captains on their phase I clone trooper armor and the symbol of the Republic Medic Corps on their left shoulder plate.[7] As the war continued, clone medics donned more personalized gear, such as with unit markings.[2] Later in the war, clone medics, like all other clones, transitioned into phase II clone trooper armor. In their standard kit, medics kept the red markings from their former armor but also received a kama with red stripes on the bottom.[3] The trend of personalization also continued, however, including the continued implementation of unit markings.[8]
In the field, clone medics could make use of stretchers capable of being attached to the side of BARC speeders.[2]
History

- Rex: "I can't move my arm."
- Kix: "You have some nerve damage."

Kix assesses Rex's blaster wound
When pursuing the Separatist General Grievous on the planet Saleucami[2] in 21 BBY,[9] the clone medic Kix of the 501st Legion accompanied Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi. Under the command of Clone Captain Rex, Kix searched for Grievous on the planet alongside Jesse and Hardcase. While searching on BARC speeders, Rex sustained a blaster wound to the chest dealt by a pair of BX-series droid commandos. After destroying the droids, Kix checked on Rex and informed the others that he would need to remove Rex's armor to assess the full extent of the damage. Jesse suggested finding a farmers homestead to avoid more combat and the troopers lifted their captain to a speeder bike-attached stretcher. The troopers eventually arrived at Lawquane's Farm, where they were confronted by the Twi'lek Suu Lawquane, who allowed the clones to use the benches in the barn.[2]
Kix rested Rex on one of the benches and applied a bacta patch to the captain's chest. After Rex awoke, the clones explained to Rex what happened to him, stating the blast would have gone straight through his heart had it been two inches to the left. Upon struggling to move his arm, Kix informed the captain that the blast caused some nerve damage. Rex ordered the troopers to continue the search but Kix shut down the captain's request, using his medical authority to let Rex heal from his wound. After receiving fruit from Lawquane, Rex told the clones to instead continue the search without him, leaving Jesse in command. The clones left Rex at the homestead to heal and joined Kenobi in a skirmish against Grievous and his battle droids.[2]
