Choyyssyk was a Wookiee male commander and member of Chieftain Tarfful's resistance group on Kashyyyk during the Imperial Era. He was captured and imprisoned in the Imperial Refinery, but was freed with the help of Saw Gerrera's Partisans and the former Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis. After being freed, Choyyssyk worked with the Partisans, becoming friends with Mari Kosan, Gerrera's lieutenant. When most of the Partisans fled Kashyyyk and Kestis returned to meet with Tarfful, Choyyssyk was present on Cargo Pad 119-Grek with Mirienna.^[1]

Biography

Prisoner of the Empire

Choyyssyk was a Wookiee who lived on his species' homeworld of Kashyyyk during its occupation by the Galactic Empire. He served as a commander with the Kashyyyk resistance led by Chieftain Tarfful, but was captured during a mission to attack an Imperial outpost and imprisoned in an Imperial Refinery where enslaved Wookiees were used in the harvesting of Wroshyr sap. Force to wear a slave collar, Choyyssyk spent months in the refinery, as Tarfful could not risk any warriors to rescue him.^[1]

In 14 BBY,^[2] the Wookiee saw the fugitive Jedi Cal Kestis enter the cell block where he and many other Wookiees were being held and called out to Kestis as the Jedi attempted to open the cells. The Jedi reassured the prisoner that he was to be freed, but before Kestis could get the cell doors open a KX-series security droid attacked him from behind. The Jedi defeated the droid and then opened the cell doors, causing Choyyssyk and the other Wookiees present to cheer as they escaped, and Choyyssyk himself to hug Kestis.^[1]

Ally of the Partisans

Tarfful, Choyyssyk and Mari Kosan talk to Cal Kestis at the Origin Lake.

Kestis: "You know Tarfful?"

Choyyssyk: "Raaaraaaa-ra-oooorr."

Kosan: "He was part of Tarfful's crew, but got captured on a mission."

Choyyssyk: "Rawr…"

Kosan: "Tarfful couldn't risk more warriors to save him. He spent months in that refinery."

Choyyssyk: "Roaar."

Kosan: "Choyyssyk will help you find Tarfful, but they're always on the move. Could take some time."

Kestis: "That's all I can ask, thank you."

The Wookiees then joined up with Kestis's ally Saw Gerrera and his Partisans as they fought their way through the facility, ultimately making their way to the roof. There, with the Imperial forces defeated, Gerrera gave a speech to those present. Choyyssyk and the Partisan Mari Kosan then approached Kestis, who asked if Choyyssyk was familiar with Tarfful who he needed to speak about his old friend Jedi Master Eno Cordova for his secret mission to rebuild the Jedi Order. With Kosan translating Choyyssyk's Shyriiwook for Kestis, the Wookiee vowed to do whatever it took to find Tarfful for Kestis, although he explained that as Tarfful was constantly on the move it might take some time. Kestis thanked him and then left Kashyyyk, confident that Choyyssyk and Kosan would find Tarfful for him.^[1]

The two later managed to find Tarfful and met with him and Kestis at the Origin Lake near the Shadowlands. Tarfful pointed the Jedi up the giant Origin Tree and Kosan gave him a rebreather so he could dive underneath the trees roots.^[1]

Personality and traits

Kestis: "Seems like Saw's willing to do whatever it takes."

Kosan: "He has his own way of doing things, yes, but these are dire times. We need leadership like Saw's."

Kestis: "Even when it means risking your lives?"

Choyyssyk: "Rooooaaaar."

Kosan: "Someone has to stand up to the Empire. Why not us?"

Kestis: "I admire that."

Kosan: "Then we have something in common. Safe journey, Cal."

Choyyssyk had brown fur and brown eyes. He became fast friends with Kosan after the prison break and the pair would stop at nothing to save Kashyyyk from Imperial occupation.^[1]
