"For instance, the folk on Etai drink this jybbuk slush covered in condensed nerf milk. It was good enough already, but coulda used some heat to balance out the sweet—so I swapped their traditional fruit garnish for a candied hot pepper that sparkles like Etai's crystal mines."
―Strono Tuggs, The Ultimate Cookbook[1]

Candied hot peppers were a type of hot green pepper candied via coating in a white powder. Inspired by how etaan crystals could be substituted for[1] standard[2] kyber crystals to power a lightsaber, the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs swapped out the traditional fruit garnish that the people of the planet Etai consumed with jybbuk slush topped with condensed nerf milk and so created Spiced Jybbuk Juice.[1]

The peppers, which Tuggs described as sparkling like the crystal mines on Etai, balanced out the sweetness of the beverage with heat and were used alongside other red and green garnishes. After a culinary tour of the galaxy that he took[1] between 34 ABY and 35 ABY,[3] Tuggs included the recipe for Spiced Jybbuk Juice in his third cookbook, The Ultimate Cookbook, which was published[1] in 35 ABY.[3]

Behind the scenes

Candied hot peppers were part of a recipe in the 2023 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook, a recipe book written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for Spiced Jybbuk Juice uses jalapeño slices coated in granulated sugar to represent the candied hot peppers.[3]

  3. 3.0 3.1 3.2 Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
