"Calys was a hero, and when she needed my help, I wasn't there. That's why I'm a rebel now."
―Asara Deyn to Kay Vess[1]

Calys was a member of the Rebel Alliance that died during the Battle of Scarif. Her death led her brother, the Twi'lek rebel named Asara Deyn, also joining the Rebel Alliance.[1]

Biography

"She was my sister. And she died at the Battle of Scarif."
"I'm sorry. Never heard of it."
"The Empire made sure of that."
―Asara Deyn to Kay Vess[1]

Life of a rebel

Calys grew up on the Outer Rim jungle planet Akiva with her brother Asara Deyn and their parents during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Calys eventually began organizing a rebel cell to counter the Empire on Akiva. As the cell grew, Asara began helping the cell by spying on Imperial patrols. After making contact with a representative of the Rebel Alliance[1] around 1 BBY,[3] Calys decided that she wanted to leave Akiva and join the Rebel Alliance. When she told Asara her plans he became scared and told their parents about Calys plans. However that did not stop her and she later slipped away during the night and joined the alliance anyway. Months later she died during the Battle of Scarif.[1]

Legacy

Calys death left Asara with immense guilt and later inspired him to join the Rebel Alliance himself.[1] By 3 ABY,[4] the Imperial Security Bureau compiled a report on Asara in which they classified him as a class two threat and detailed Calys death and its impact on Asara. The report went on to state that an evaluation of Asara's psychological profile suggested that the trauma of his sister would be a strong pressure point that can be exploited in the event of his capture.[1]

In 3 ABY,[4] Asara shared his admiration for Calys as well as some of the details of her death to a thief named Kay Vess while she was helping him rescue a number of members of Typhoon Squadron from the Hutt Poaching Station on Akiva before they could be sold to the Empire.[1]

During the same year, Vess found a copy of the ISB's report on Asara at the Hutt's poaching station which included references to Calys.[1]

Behind the scenes

Calys was mentioned in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. Asara's ISB report initially stated that Calys died at the Battle of Trevini instead of the Battle of Scarif which is what Asara states during the "Legacy" main story quest. However the text of the report was updated in a later version of the game which corrected the mistake and confirm that Calys died during the Battle of Scarif.[1]
