- ―CZ-D2-9000 introduces itself before being deactivated
CZ-D2-9000 was part of the designation of a CZ-series secretary/business communications droid[2] manufactured by Serv-O-Droid, Inc.[1] During the era of the New Republic[2] around 9 ABY,[4] the droid was left deactivated on a table[2] among an inventory of broken down old droid models in a droid repair shop[3] on the pirate-controlled asteroid Port Borgo.[2]
While searching for the pirate droid SM-33 in the shop, the fugitive pirate Jod Na Nawood activated CZ-D2-9000 to learn[2] its[3] name. The droid sat upright and greeted Na Nawood, but as soon as it stated its name and revealed itself to not be SM-33, the pirate deactivated the CZ-series unit and it fell back to the table. CZ-D2-9000 had white plating and black sensors.[2]
Behind the scenes
CZ-D2-9000 appeared in "Very Interesting, As an Astrogation Problem," the third episode of the Disney+ live-action series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,[2] which aired on December 10, 2024.[5] The CZ-series prop had previously been created for[6] the 2018 Anthology film,[7] Solo: A Star Wars Story and was puppetered by William Miyamoto from beneath the table with Mike Senna operating the remote control to return its head. There was discussion of swapping out the Solo model for a more accurate CZ-series costume owned by puppeteer Gordon Tarpley, but, as the other version was already rigged up, there was not time to swap them out.[6]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition,
"A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well.
SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
