- "Supervisor Poreni, this is C-5DS on behalf of General Grievous. It has come to our attention that preliminary tests of the BX Commando unit are promising. The twenty percent discount on future B1 deliveries will suffice, and we will make an advance order of twelve thousand BX units."
- ―C-5DS, to chief supervisor Poreni
C-5DS was a droid in service to General Grievous of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, in which the Galactic Republic fought against the Confederacy. Early during the war, they communicated with chief supervisor Poreni about droid production on the planet Akiva.
Biography
- "Supervisor Poreni. I am C-5DS, on behalf of General Grievous. Field data indicates that batch 4652-A of B1 battle droids have proven insufficient in terms of combat performance. Out of more than twenty-six thousand deployed droids, less than five percent have survived engagement with Republic forces. Before scheduling another order, we require an update as how the product will be improved."

C-5DS served General Grievous (pictured) during the Clone Wars.
C-5DS was a droid in service of General Grievous,[1] the Supreme Commander of the Droid Army[2] for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, a galactic conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy[1] that took place from 22 BBY to 19 BBY.[3] Early during the war,[4] C-5DS communicated with chief supervisor Poreni in a series of messages about the performance of a batch of B1-series battle droids produced at the droid factory that Poreni oversaw on the Outer Rim planet Akiva.[1]
During the exchange, C-5DS informed Poreni that the batch's combat performance proved insufficient, with less than five percent of the twenty-six thousand battle droids deployed against Galactic Republic forces surviving the engagement. In response, Poreni apologized for the poor performance and offered a twenty percent discount on the next batch of B1 battle droids as well as a promise to improve the droid's future performance. In the following message, C-5DS accepted the discount and went on to make an advance order of twelve thousand BX-series droid commandos, following the promising preliminary tests of the BX-series. Copies of at least four of these transmissions between C-5DS and Poreni were captured by equipment that remained in orbit over Akiva through the end of the war and into the reign of the Republic's successor, the Galactic Empire.[1]
Four of the transmissions were later recovered by the scoundrel Kay Vess[1] in 3 ABY. That same year,[5] Vess's companion ND-5, a BX-series droid commando, was able to use the messages between C-5DS and Poren along with several other Clone Wars–era transmissions to track down a Separatist base on Akiva.[1]
Characteristics
C-5DS was capable of speaking Galactic Basic.[1]
Behind the scenes
C-5DS's voice appeared in four collectible transmissions in the 2024 video game Star Wars Outlaws, developed by Massive Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. The four collectible transmissions, titled "CIS 01" through "CIS 04," were part of the "Separatist Transmissions" expert intel quest, which eventually leads the player to MT-7, another BX-series droid and one of nine experts who the player can complete quests for in order to gain various abilities.[1]

Rishi Station in the Databank (backup link) establishes that the events of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Rookies," which puts itself to be early in the BX-series droid commando's existence, occurs in the early period of the Clone Wars. If the BX-series was new during the early war, then the Clone Wars-era transmission about preliminary BX testing seen in Star Wars Outlaws must have been from the early war period as well.
