- "We've got Batuu Brew, Black Spire Brew, Blurrgfire, Toniray White, Andoan White, Moogan Tea—with or without alco—"
- ―Janott lists the alcohol available in his cantina
Black Spire Brew was a brown-colored, caf-based beverage. It was served cold over ice in a tall glass with a speared fruit garnish consisting of a speared green hemisphere and smaller dark spheres. The caffeinated drink was served at Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu,[2] where it was considered richer than Spiran caf.[3]
During the Clone Wars, the cantina's bartender Janott listed the drink among those available for the human Senator Padmé Amidala to consume when she visited the cantina.[1] The drink was still available in 34 ABY.[4]
Behind the scenes
Black Spire Brew was first mentioned in the 2018 novel Thrawn: Alliances, which was written by Timothy Zahn.[1] The drink has been served in the real-world at Oga's Cantina bar in the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. When it was announced and pictured for the public on February 27, 2019, Moogan Tea and Black Spire Brew were erroneously identified with their names swapped;[5] Black Spire Brew was subsequently labelled correctly at the bar.[6] The drink debuted for guests to purchase when the land opened in Disneyland Park on May 31 and Disney's Hollywood Studios on August 29.[7] The menu's description reads, "Cold Brew Joffrey's Coffee®, Honey, Falernum, Passion Fruit, and Citrus."[8]
The 2020 non-canon video game expansion The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu includes Black Spire Brew as a drink; however, Moogan Tea and Black Spire Brew each have the other's appearance. The drink can be purchased by the player's Sims at the Oga's Cantina vendor in the Black Spire Outpost neighborhood. Upon consuming the drink for the first time, the Sim automatically learns the recipe and can prepare it at mixology bars in their home neighborhood.[9]
