For other uses, see Barium and Frizz.

The Barium Frizz was a beverage created by the human bartender Wuher of Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, located in the Mos Eisley settlement on[1] the Outer Rim Territories planet[3] Tatooine. The drink was one of Wuher's most popular inventions,[1] and it shared its name with barium liquid, a product served at Dex's Diner on[4] the Core Worlds[3] planet Coruscant[4] at some point between 28 BBY and 18 BBY.[5] In 0 BBY,[6] during his bartending shift at the cantina, Wuher automatically made beverages such as Barium Frizzes while his mind was occupied with the contemplation of his encounters with the droid C2-R4 as well as the pheromone-charged smell of the Rodian bounty hunter Greedo earlier that same day.[2]

The Barium Frizz was introduced in "Be Still My Heart: The Bartender's Tale," a short story written by David Bischoff and published in the 1995 anthology Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina.[2] The capitalized spelling of the drink's name subsequently came with the sixty-seventh issue of De Agostini's The Official Star Wars Fact File magazine,[1] which was released around April 9, 2003[7] and written by Iain Lowson.[8] In the real-world, barium is a chemical element and metal that, in nature, is always found in the form of chemical compounds. All soluble barium compounds are toxic to mammals, whereas the insoluble barium sulfate is used as a radiocontrast agent in X-ray imaging of the human gastrointestinal tract.[9]
