- "Are you heading to your quarters?"
"Yes. I need to finish my write-up on proposals to track down Ro himself, if it's even possible from this side of the Stormwall." - ―Elzar Mann and Avar Kriss
Jedi Master Avar Kriss lived in a set of personal quarters in the Jedi Order's Jedi Temple on the Core Worlds planet Coruscant during the High Republic Era. In 228 BBY, as Kriss headed to her quarters to finish proposals for a search for Nihil leader Marchion Ro, she stopped and spoke with Jedi Master Elzar Mann. Afterward, Kriss left the temple to speak with the San Tekka clan member Cair San Tekka about the plague known as the blight.
Later that year, Kriss and Mann—who had since become lovers—spent a night together in Kriss' bed. After waking up the next day, both Jedi received a message from the Jedi High Council requesting them to participate in a mission believed not to be survivable. Kriss and Mann agreed to take part in the mission, which they did not return from.
Description
A set of personal quarters in the Jedi Order's Jedi Temple on[1] the Core Worlds[2] planet Coruscant was resided in by the human Jedi Master Avar Kriss.[1] The chamber had a smooth stone wall, a window, and a bed located within. Not far from Kriss' bed was a small and simple desk upon which the Jedi Master put her datapad.[3]
History
Avar Kriss resided in the quarters.
During the High Republic Era, Avar Kriss studied at the Jedi Temple for over three decades.[3] By 228 BBY,[4] she had come to live in the quarters.[1] That year,[4] as Kriss headed to her quarters to finish her write-up for proposals for the Jedi to search for Marchion Ro—the leader of the Nihil marauders—she encountered Jedi Master Elzar Mann, who asked her if she was going to her quarters. In response, Kriss confirmed she was and then informed him of her intent to finish the proposals to search for Ro. Following their conversation, however, Kriss left the temple to speak with the San Tekka clan member Cair San Tekka about the plague known as the blight after learning from Mann that the first sample of the blight the Jedi had received had been San Tekka's severed hand.[1]
Later that year,[5] after Kriss and Mann had become lovers, they began to spend as many nights as they could together. One day, Mann had been researching an esoteric and near-forgotten technique of the Force, with the two Masters ending the day together in Kriss' bed. The following morning, after Kriss awoke, her datapad received a message from the Jedi High Council to ask her to be part of a mission to address the Blight and Nameless—Force-consuming creatures that the Nihil were using against the Jedi. After reading the message, her reaction woke Mann up.[3]

The pair then conversed about the mission, with Kriss noting that it was not believed to be survivable. Afterward, Mann retrieved his own datapad, noting he did not have the same message. As Mann told Kriss that she had to accept the mission, the two looked at each other while the sun glowed into Kriss' chamber. Mann's datapad then chimed, indicating he had received the message as well, with both Jedi then confirming their acceptance of the mission. Within seconds, they both received another message with the location and timing of the mission's full briefing. After noting they did not have much time, Mann told Kriss they should get ready, though Kriss did not want to do so yet and reached for him. Both Jedi attended the briefing and ultimately took part in the mission, from which they did not return, instead remaining on[3] the Wild Space[6] planet Sophros to hold back the spread of the Blight.[3]
Behind the scenes
Avar Kriss' quarters were first mentioned in the 2024 novel The High Republic: Temptation of the Force, written by Tessa Gratton and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[7] The quarters later appeared in The High Republic: Trials of the Jedi, a 2025 novel written by Charles Soule[3] which was also part of the multimedia project's Phase III.[7]

The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular. As
